The new Alice in Wonderland movie is causing all the right waves and freaking out all the right people. Walt Disney Pictures released the first creepy promotional stills from Tim Burton’s new 3-D incarnation of the Disney classic.

The top image is of some of the main characters from the film; Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bona Carter as the Red Queen, and Anne Hathaway as The White Queen. (see USA Today for deets and larger HQ pics).

“It has been Burton-ized” is how producer Richard Zanuck describes the director’s vision of the Lewis Carroll classic. Many elements are familiar, from the enigmatic Caterpillar (Alan Rickman) to the fierce Jabberwock (Christopher Lee). But none has been presented in this sort of visually surreal fashion.

“We finished shooting in December after only 40 days,” Zanuck says. Now the live action is being merged with CG animation and motion-capture creatures, and then transferred into 3-D. (via USA Today)

Alice in Wonderland hits theatres March 5, 2010. Check the IMDb or wiki.

    This looks amazingness!!! :)

    1. I think I might need to take a hit of acid before going. Should help me mellow out and not suffer brain melt from watching this (it does look awesome though).

    Depp looks downright freaky.

i’m curious what he has over Burton, though. seems like just abut every Tim Burton movie has him and Helena in it with music by Danny Elfman. Maybe it’s some sort of group orgy? lmao

    1. Someone is sleeping with someone. If this is not the product of sexual favours on demand, I dunno what it. What other actors get that much work from one dorector! :P

Tim Burton + Alice in Wonderland? Okay you all KNEW that was BOUND to happen!! And I’m totally stoked to see this movie!!

    1. Welcome to the site and thanks for commenting Cheshire’s Girl. I totally never see anything that man does coming. I long bored of his stale style and using the same actors. But, I’ll probably watch and like this.

I know what you mean, Amy! But I like the stuff he and Johny Depp have done together-save for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory- because they both work so well together, since they are friends of sorts. And, let’s face it, he’s a great choice for the Mad Hatter considering how many characters he’s played for Tim Burton, and Disney that are totally insane ^_^

I’m not the biggest Burton fan. He has great vision and his sets are often awe-inspiring, such as in Alice. I have no doubt that visually the film will be amazing. However, in most Tim Burton films, what you gain in imagery, you lose in story-telling. So I’m interested to see how he pulls this off. I just really hope he doesn’t allow on imagery alone like in so many of his other films (ex. Batman)

    1. Welcome to the site and thanks so much for the comment.

You make some very good points. I watched Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for the first time, yesterday. I had to make two attempts to sit through it. Though beautifully shot, there was such a lack of fluidity and any meaninful effort to storytell. Hopefully this will be better.

Stay tuned, a HQ trailer and movie posters from Comic-con will be posted up tomorrow – look out for it!

    Sigh. That should read:

I hope he doesn’t RELY on imagery alone…

    1. No worries, I understood you :)
