Amanda Bynes’ parents did as promised and filed for conservatorship to look after their mentally ill daughter. The 27-year-old is currently being observed by doctors to determine whether she has bipolar or schizophrenia. Someone at the psych ward where she is currently being held is basically reading her chart over the phone to TMZ.com on the hour, and recently told the website this: ‘She’s lucid for long stretches, then goes off the handle crazy [sometimes needing to be restrained]… Doctors determined Amanda is suffering from a severe mental illness ‘with schizophrenic tendencies.’ She’s aware ‘there’s a good Amanda and a bad Amanda.’ When she talks about the bad Amanda she almost mimics an exorcism, pulling at her body as if to remove the demon, and even biting herself.’ She was being observed in a room with another girl, but Bynes became so hostile she had to be separated from her roommate. The actress who is so sick she axiomatically cannot keep from setting fire to herself somehow stood a real chance of walking free from the hospital, Thursday night, though, because there was a hearing to determine whether to extend her 72 hour hold another two weeks—needed to determine the extent of her illness because she has such long periods of being lucid. Good news, minutes ago, a judge ruled to keep Bynes in hospital for another two weeks so even if her parents’ application for conservatorship is denied she’s still safe and cared for another few weeks.
