A teen (who I found so repulsive while watching I vommed in my mouth a little when her episode came on) is suing ABC over Wife Swap USA. For those who don’t often get their YouTube bootleg on/ otherwise go out of their way to absorb as much trash television as possible, the girl above is Alicia Guastaferro. Guastaferro is now 18-years-old (around two years older than she was on the episode of the show seen above). Her episode of Wife Swap USA was a shocker for many reasons, which only just seems to have dawned on the pageant brat.
The Guastaferro family were ridiculous; they had a year-round Christmas tree and gave their daughter a gift every day to prove how much they loved her, they refused to discipline her, they did her homework for her as they didn’t think it was a good use of her time. So ridic.. The whole family came across as vapid, clueless, and headed for disaster when the girl got into the real world.
Alicia Guastaferro is suing ABC over issues she takes with her episode; she claims she has received death threats and harbours suicidal tendencies since the show, in which she said, “I do feel sorry for people that are not gorgeous people”. Furthermore the focus of the show is allegedly too heavily on one daughter, when it’s supposed to be about both families swapping wives.
Guastaferro says that since the airing she has had to transfer schools in upstate New York and has gone from the honor roll to being a Special Education student. It probably didn’t help that during the show, [mother] Mrs. [Karen] Guastaferro freely admitted, and demonstrated, how she does her daughter’s homework. “She doesn’t have time!”
“I feel the way to Alicia’s happiness is, give her everything she wants. Don’t give her any rules. Why upset her?” [Karen] said. Another motive for the lawsuit may be financial. Last November, Ralph and Karen Guastaferro pleaded guilty to felony money laundering charges stemming from a Canadian telemarketing scheme. Karen is also in hot water for not declaring wages at the family’s glass-tinting business. According to a Buffalo News report, she faces up to 16 months in jail, while he could spend up to 57 months behind bars. [Pop Eater and NY Daily News]
I totally smiled when reading this report, and not especially in a schadenfreude way. I just thought, “yeah… that’s what happens when you’re a horrid, empty person with no character and morals. What did you expect? Karma’s a bish, huh.”
