Tasteless Rihanna Joke On Comedy Central

I saw this shit posted on TMZ.com and wanted to know what you guys thought. The clip is taken from Comedy Central Roast of Larry the Cable Guy. The video includes a nasty, tasteless joke about the recent alleged beating of Rihanna by Chris Brown.

The sick bitch telling the joke @ around 55 secs in is Lisa Lampanelli and I must say that I personally do not find comments about domestic violence (even those claiming to be based in humour) funny at all.

Click to play the clip, and let me know if you think I am off on this one. I just think it is inappropriate and too soon.

I guess you know nothing of this comedian. funny shit!!! LMAO!!!!

  2. Unfortunately, I am working right now, and cannot play the clip, however, my off the cuff opinion is that somebody getting the shit beat out of them is never funny, unless it is the bully who one day finds himself with a sagging ass and a pot belly, and the new bully beats his ass.

    I am okay with that.

Just took a break to stand outside in the rain, and came back to watch the clip. I find the comic very raunchy and funny, until she passes the Chris Brown joke.

So, no, Amy, you are not over reacting – we both watched it, and enjoyed it up until that point.

If one is angry, and wants to beat the shit out of someone else, don’t be a piss-ant and kick someone smaller than you.

As a child of a mother that despised me and beat the crap out of me, I find it cowardly to jack on somebody less strong or smaller.

You want to fight? Take on Mike Tyson.

  3. Hey Don!
Where do you live? May I come over and beat the shit out of you, then joke about it later?

You will be ROF but not laughing, count on it.

  4. Firecracker says:

I totally agree with Don! Lisa is a funny bitch. You should watch some of her DVDs and furthermore, Rihanna is a walking joke and she has made herself one.

If Rihanna wants to hang on to that loser, it’s not like Lisa said something we all haven’t said ourselves. She’s dating an abuser! She is making a fool of her own damn self, Lisa just pointed out the obvious.

    Go Lisa!

  5. @ Don: thanks for your first ever comment No, I don’t know who this crackwhore comedian is. She is not famous in the UK, thank heavens. I just saw the clip while researching something else and wanted any feedback. If all her comedy is this tacky I guess yours is a fair comment.

    @ Kelly: MARRY ME :P

No, really, thank you for your comments, supporting me/ my opinions and offering to kick Don’s ass. I effing love you girl.

Sorry to hear about your mamma. I mean things like that as well. Any violence is wrong, especially if against someone smaller. No fair. I actually read today that 1 in 5 people in the UK think domestic violence is perfectly acceptable… especially if the girl flirts with others and dresses provocatively O_o

@ Firecracker: Gurl! I love that you are honest. No idea who this Lisa ho’ is, I think I’ll leave her well alone. No funny.

I saw the clip on another site, and they had a poll question up, “Is it too soon for this to be funny?” with only a yes/no option. I don’t think it’s “too soon,” per se, I just didn’t think it was very funny. (Any of it, not just the Chris Brown reference – the clip I saw was about 2 minutes long.)

Hard to explain – I didn’t think it was particularly *offensive* or “OMG, I can’t believe you said that, it’s not funny to joke about that!” I just thought that the whole thing was boring and predictable and unfunny. Not “Outrage! *clutch the pearls*” or anything – just “*yawn*.”

I love raunchy and edgy comedians, but there has to be, you know, *comedy* in there too. She might have other material that’s hilarious, but this was just flat, boring, and uninspired, and she made it SO MUCH WORSE with the “Best joke ever” remark afterwards. I don’t know if she felt the need to slip in an “I’m just kidding, don’t get bent” disclaimer or what, but comedians who congratulate themselves during their own routines are usually trying to convince the audience that they really are funny. (Witness the subject of the roast, Larry the Cable Guy and his signature line, “That raht there’s funny, Ah’n't care WHO y’are!” If you have to TELL people it was funny… probably not.)

I am a domestic abuse survivor and I have been known to make jokes about my own experiences – it’s a coping mechanism for me (I never joke about anyone else’s, however). So I don’t think it’s necessarily entirely off limits… if it’d been funny, I might have laughed. But I’ll never know, because it just wasn’t funny.

I do wish that more people understood the mechanics of abusive relationships before they heaped all the verbal abuse on Rihanna, though. I’m torn: Part of me wants to call her up and yell at her, “What the hell are you THINKING?” but the other part of me remembers all too clearly how distorted everything gets, and how you don’t know what to think, what to believe… You find a way to blame yourself, make excuses even for things that any sane person could see are inexcusable.

It really is like temporary insanity to be in that situation; you look back on it later – if you’re lucky enough to get out – and the shame of thinking, “Oh God, I was so STUPID” is just overpowering. She’s probably got enough self-reproach and self-recrimination going on right now; I don’t think she needs it from everyone else. It’ll just make it that much harder for her to break free, because believe me, Chris Brown is going to be milking that for all he’s worth right now. “All those people who say you’re crazy for staying with me, they just don’t understand, baby.” He’ll make SURE that she knows about the criticism and ridicule… and before too long, he’s going to seem like the only person who’s not “against” her, the only one who’s not calling her names and ridiculing her. He’ll feel like the only “safe” place to be, and she’ll think she’s making the right decision because he’s being kind and loving while everyone else is being angry and critical, and he promised it’ll never happen again. And then it’ll happen again…

Sorry this was so long; I get carried away about it.

    1. Hi E.

Welcome to the site and thank you for leaving such a detailed comment. Never feel bad for leaving a long comment. Unlike most other celeb sites, this is the place for airing views at length when you have something of such value to say.

  7. Amy –
Sorry so long to reply – been sick as a dog.
We are already soulmates, but to make it official, I ask thee, on bended knee, will you marry me?

Hi, “E” – that was a wonderful and thoughtful comment, and I don’t feel quite as naked stating that my mother beat the crap out of me – domestic abuse, in any form, leaves both parties in such insane states of denial that for anyone who has never been there to try and “walk in those shoes”, well, it is like trying to imagine what the astronauts felt like as they saw the earth become the size of a pea.

Please come back and share here – Amy is a wonderful hostess, and she has created a safe haven for everyone to share their opinion.

xo to all, back to work!

    1. …thanks for responding to and reassuring “E”. She has already come back and commented on another post, here:

So glad to have found another bright and verbose commenter :)

      Also, Kelly, I Do!!!

  8. pedro says:

I think she makes fun of it, because Rihanna was dumb enough to take him back.. She went back to him, so it’s fair game. Lisa is not making fun of the abuse itself, but Rihanna’s stupidity to take him back after being beaten… is not that she doesn’t have the means to survive by herself

  9. Anon says:

I am disgusted by that shit. I bet you anything Rihanna didn’t think it was very funny. I bet none of her friends or family thought it was funny. That’s just cruel and callous.

and Firecracker: no one deserves to be abused. That’s ridiculous.

    1. pedro says:

Anon, she took the guy that beat the sh!t out of her back.. that’s incredibly stupid…

if she hadn’t done that, then yes, the joke would be very cruel, but, she made a joke of herself by doing it
