Buffy The Vampire Slayer Remake Will Suck

Look, mum. I made a funny. Buffy The Vampire Slayer is going to be remade without its original creator, who it seems retained no rights to the name nor concept. Warner Brothers is hammering ahead with a remake of the franchise, started off the back of the Buffy film starring Luke Perry and Kristy Swanson, because, well f**k originality I guess. The last sentiment is one shared by Joss Whedon, who wrote the screenplay for the original 1992 film and created the TV series that ran from 1997 to 2003 (as well as Angel, Firefly, and Dollhouse). Upon hearing that his beloved creation would begin filming, without his approval or input, and asked for a reaction by E!, Whedon gave a very matter-of-fact and humourous response. ‘Obviously I have strong, mixed emotions about something like this… Apparently I am seldom informed of anything. And possibly a little slow. But seriously, are vampires even popular any more?… I always hoped that Buffy would live on even after my death. But, you know, AFTER. I don’t love the idea of my creation in other hands, but I’m also well aware that many more hands than mine went into making that show what it was. And there is no legal grounds for doing anything other than sighing audibly.’ Upon a little Googling I happened upon a small Anti Buffy Remake-type FB group, on which fans of the originals can butthurt the night away. I was too young for the original film, but I did watch the television series. It was pretty great, if dated before it’d even finished airing. As Whedon said, vampires are played out. Let’s just thumb-twiddle and let this crash and burn and go straight to DVD like Mean Girls 2.

Mean Girls 2 Movie Trailer is Really Terrible

Mean Girls 2 exists. It has been greenlit since June and the actors and director announced. I saw its movie trailer and thought it must be some horrible fan-made trash. The same thing I thought when watching the Showgirls 2 trailer. However, it’s entirely legit and this is the official trailer for Mean Girls 2. The film still co-stars Tim Meadows, who must have a spare minute to fill between other projects, Maiara Walsh, Jennifer Stone, and Meaghan Martin. Aside from Meadows and Walsh (who used to be on Desperate Housewives), I don’t recognise any one. The film’s co-written by Elana Lesser and Cliff Ruby. Where the first was masterfully written by Tina Fey (based on the book by Rosalind Wiseman). The lack of Fey is showing. Furthermore, there’s no real promotion of the sequel until 20 seconds into the 97 second trailer, shown below. It’s basically a Mean Girls (1) trailer, that turns into a steaming turd if fed after midnight.

Katie Holmes as Jackie Kennedy on New Poster

Katie Holmes can be seen in the poster above, as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (Jackie O). This is the first time we’re seeing the actress as the former first lady, in the History Channel mini-series The Kennedys. It’s all kinds of slightly lazily-composited madness, with cheeks blurring into foreheads and the like (far right). And, Robot Katie is shown on the far left, be-wigged, in all her robotic Windows 7-upgraded goodness. Holmes’ glassy-eyed robot stare is perfect on the poster. Perfect in the way only a robot who can age at will can be. She kind of looks like she’s playing her own mother, rather than Jackie O. Also, the interesting/ pretty dimensions of her face and any light in her eyes have been stripped away leaving only a waxen shell. It’s nothing like as much of an overly-processed mess as, for example, most movie posters. It’s serviceable. The Kennedys, which premieres in early 2011, co-stars Greg Kinnear as Jack Kennedy and Barry Pepper as Bobby Kennedy. Holmes said of the opportunity to play the role, ‘I feel so lucky. We have these wonderful seamstresses who are creating beautiful dresses that are obviously replicas of real things [Kennedy] wore. Her great style was both appropriate for every event that she went to and also classic, and also things that were wearable. I feel really lucky to be playing her.’

Amanda Seyfried Red Riding Hood Movie Trailer

Amanda Seyfried stars in the below Red Riding Hood movie trailer. The movie trailer follows productions stills from earlier in the week, which I saw but was too underwhelmed by to post. The retelling of Little Red Red Riding Hood also stars Gary Oldman, Shiloh Fernandez, and Virginia Madsen. So, basically, people who don’t suck and should make (what would be) an otherwise puerile film pretty watchable for adults. I’m checking out the trailer as I post, and I’m torn. Its story arc is pretty good; it seems to follow the book loosely and remains coherent enough to hold interest. However, it’s shot like a budget version of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Somewhere in between the costuming and the direction it becomes cheapened a little. I can’t really be more specific. The trailer, at the least, is worth checking out. The movie is released in theaters March 11, 2011.

Christina Aguilera & Cher at Burlesque Premiere

Christina Aguilera and Cher attend the Burlesque Hollywood, CA premiere; only Christina Aguilera bothered to get dressed. Aguilera wore a long green dress that dragged along behind her, and the same bone-dry weave from the Hollywood Walk of Fame presentation ceremony. Cher wore very little. Very, very little. A mini-dress, fishnets, and a push-up bra like some dying-for-attention 14-year-old. Having presumably swapped dressing rooms and outfits at some point, the film’s female leads walked the red carpet in Hollywood for their soon-to-be-released movie, Burlesque. We’ve already seen the poster, trailer, and at least two pieces of musical video from the film; I Am A Good Girl, and Express. On the red carpet, aside from Stanley Tucci and Cam Gigandet, the film’s male leads, were the following: Ryan Seacrest; Jane Fonda; Eric Dane, and Rebecca Gayheart; Khloe Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, and Kendall Jenner (the sisters you don’t care about); AnnaLynne McCord with several kinds of horribe weave/ crimes against crimpers in one hairdo; Chaz Bono; Linda Perry; Robin Antin, and Steven Antin; James Marsden; David Furnish; Kristin Cavallari, trying to remain relevant; Will Ferrell; George Hamilton; Matt Goss; Kathy Griffin.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Premiere

Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Tom Felton, attended the NYC premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One. I wasn’t able to cover the UK premiere; however, this is slightly more interesting anyway. And by ‘slightly more interesting’, I mean I actually recognise some of the people on the red carpet (where the A-listers were drowned out by reality stars and hasbeens on the London red carpet). As well as the central cast of Watson (wearing a cheaply-fitting nightgown), Radcliffe, Grint, and Felton, also in attendance were the following: co-stars Liam Neeson, and Ralph Fiennes; Lourdes Leon, daughter of Madonna; Patrick Wilson; Sarah Jessica Parker, who took her son, James Broderick (I’m not kidding when I say I had to stop myself from correcting that to ‘Matthew Broderick’) and her husband, Matthew Broderick; Joey Fatone, formerly of NSync and his daughter; Melissa Joan Hart; Keri Russell; Gabourey Sidibe.
