Despite the assertions of a few pressed people trying to fill a slow news day, obviously, no, Miley Cyrus is not engaged to Liam Hemsworth. Which I’m only phrasing as such because I rather like Hemsworth. And I’d like to think he’d spend more than a dollar on an engagement ring. Late last week, Cyrus tweeted a photo of her manicure and cheap ring and everyone jumped on it as a sly engagement announcement. Except, not really, because it was a publicity stunt to promote her boyfriend’s movie even though he’s barely in it. Presumably not looking very closely at the ring, TMZ.com also called it a ‘huge rock,’ which it isn’t. It’s not really a matter of opinion either. For those who looked, it’s just a little ring. As such, Cyrus just issued a denial on Twitter. After the box office numbers came in. ‘I’m not engaged. I’ve worn this same ring on this finger since November! People just wanna find something to tal about! It’s a topaz people!’

Despite some excitable rumour-mongering over the weekend, no, Miley Cyrus is not engaged to Liam Hemsworth (who, it turns out, is barely in The Hunger Games at all. I mean, almost not at all). Over the weekend, Cyrus posted this photo of her manicure without realising it’s nothing to brag about with the caption: ‘I am soooo obsessed with [shill] nail foundations! It looks so chic and classic!’ Except she had a gumball Claire’s ring on THAT finger so people who’ve never seen an engagement ring before posited that she was engaged (Gossip Cop, The Daily Mail and People Magazine called it a ‘giant diamond,’ a ‘giant rock,’ a ‘sizable rock,’ or whatever, when it looked tiny/ cheap/ fake to me). Except the 19-year-old is not engaged to her 22-year-old boyfriend. A source tells Us Weekly it’s just a random ring, despite her wearing it through red carpet events with Hemsworth this weekend. It’s just a ring, until reps say otherwise.
