Perry has been avoiding the press the last month, except she hasn’t really because it’s important everyone know she did that to her hair for her Adidas commercial. I’m going to call it: Katy Perry doesn’t want or need the scrutiny right now, so she’s chickened out of appearing at Wednesday’s People’s Choice Awards. Only this weekend did the singer issue a statement about December’s divorce filing, which felt like a precursor to the appearance. However, Perry just went on Twitter to back out and thank people for their votes so far: ‘Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People’s Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed!’ She could have just avoided the press line at the event, no? Is it extreme to back out rather than duck the press on the red carpet?
Katy Perry went on Twitter for the first time since the divorce filing in order to passive-aggressively tell her parents to STFU. Last week, Perry’s parents got all excited about the divorce and how it drew people into their local church to hear her pastor father preach. They name-dropped the singer in marketing materials for their services and they’ve been talking about the divorce and her feelings in the media. On Sunday, the singer wrote: ‘I am so grateful for all the love and support I’ve had from people around the world. You guys have made my heart happy again… Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, ‘close sources’ or my family.’ Perry will appear in public for the first time since the split for Wednesday’s People’s Choice Awards.
Katy Perry and Russell Brand probably didn’t have a prenup. Reportedly, Perry told New York Magazine last year there was no prenup. Which, from my understanding, would mean Brand will be entitled to half the community property earned during their 14-month marriage (anything earned before their marriage is not in the community pot). Moreover, the divorce papers noted community property of some kind needed to be split. So, thus far, all signs point to Perry walking away poorer. Also, she’s being blamed for the split; for her religious background, for partying and refusal to stay home/ sober like her husband, for not starting a family right away. However, the couple married on their only free week of the year and, once married, ‘because of the friction [caused by arguing], and their schedules, they never spent long periods of time with each other.’
