Stephen Gately’s Cause of Death Uncovered

This weekend, Stephen Gately of 90s Irish boyband Boyzone was found dead on holiday at his £1 million apartment in Majorca at the very young age of 33. He was there with his partner Andy Cowles, whom he married in a civil ceremony in 2006. At the time of his death on October 10, 2009, it was not known what killed the star. Today, more is known about his final hours.

Police said, very early on, that there was nothing suspicious that surrounded the way he died. The initial reports said little more than he died in his sleep, which got the old spiteful rumour-mill going. Today it has been revealed that Gately died by chocking on his own vomit, in his sleep.

Stephen Gately died in his sleep when he choked on his vomit after drinking at a gay club until 6am. The Boyzone star, 33, was found at his £1 million apartment in Majorca in his pyjamas kneeling against the sofa with his face buried in a pillow. He was discovered by his distraught partner Andy Cowles on Saturday afternoon. The pair, who were on holiday, had been partying at the club together. A family friend said: “The family have been told the most likely scenario is Stephen had a bit too much to drink, vomited in his sleep and choked. It was a terrible accident.” (via The Mirror)
