Shia LaBeouf Honest About Indiana Film Failures

Shia LaBeouf is a little too honest… as am I… once I’ve got a lethal Aspirin and Red Bull cocktail in me (who are you sideeye-ing… I’ve had some wild times on that combo). Anyways, only last week we were treated to LaBeouf slamming Michael Bay and the mostrocity that was Transformers 2: Revenge of the Happy Meal Toys; a movie in which your childhood was raped as a bunch of tweens ran around the desert, in circles, and tried not to get killed. The Beef hated that movie. He was also not too pleased with his work in Indiana Jones and the Movie with the Overlong Title (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull).

From his quotes we ascertain that he was not proud of his work, nor was his co-star Harrison Ford, and director Steven Spielberg shouldn’t be either.

  • On how he handled his part in the movie: “I feel like I dropped the ball on the legacy that people loved and cherished,” LaBeouf told the LA Times, apologetically. “If I was going to do it twice, my career was over.”
  • Oh, and LaBeouf wasn’t the only principle actor bummed out by the movie: “We [Harrison Ford and LaBeouf] had major discussions. He wasn’t happy with it either. Look, the movie could have been updated. There was a reason it wasn’t universally accepted.”
  • While the film may have been a financial success, earning nearly $800 million worldwide, LaBeouf believes Spielberg needs to hear it from a friend that ‘Skull’ was a mess: “I’ll probably get a call [from Spielberg],” LaBeouf rightly predicts. “But he needs to hear this. I love him. I love Steven. I have a relationship with Steven that supersedes our business work. And believe me, I talk to him often enough to know that I’m not out of line. And I would never disrespect the man. I think he’s a genius, and he’s given me my whole life. He’s done so much great work that there’s no need for him to feel vulnerable about one film. But when you drop the ball you drop the ball.”
  • LaBeouf admits he wasn’t very convincing as a leather jacket-wearing action hero, saying he just wasn’t up to the task: “You get to monkey-swinging and things like that and you can blame it on the writer and you can blame it on Steven [Spielberg]. But the actor’s job is to make it come alive and make it work, and I couldn’t do it. So that’s my fault. Simple.
