Shakira Has No Problem with Illegal Downloads

Shakira told The Daily Mail newspaper she doesn’t mind her fans downloading music illegally.

The singer told the newspaper that her fans sneaking into her Internets and stealing her music is nothing to write home about. Rather than get her belly chain in a bunch, she insists that music being shared or stolen makes her feel closer to her fans.

Not sure how that works, as all it should make her feel is broke. Like that time when you found that five bucks down the back of your friend’s sofa and kept it, then they got all mad. Maybe it’s like how close you felt to them, after taking their money. Super close, like stealing from them was your way of telling them that you really love them and that you really, really love jacking their sh-t .

Okay, that makes no sense to me either. Nor does Shakira’s assertion that music is a gift that needs to be shared with the universe.

More on what Shakira has to say, along with three photos of her leaving MTV Studios in Times Square, New York City after an appearance at It’s On With Alexa Chung October 20, 2009.

Shakira [said], “I like what’s going on because I feel closer to the fans and the people who appreciate the music… It’s the democratization of music in a way. And music is a gift. That’s what it should be, a gift.” (via Pop Eater)

  1. Pauls says:

She’s probably saying she appreciates the appreciation that fans are showing by trying to get her (awesome, in her mind) music. Bootleggers are another matter altogether.

Not all performers view their work as a total cash grab…there’s still some art alive in the world.

    1. I’d probably agree with you if Shakira was actually a decent artist. Shaking her booty and humping speakers on stage isn’t really art – so she doesn’t get to make comments like this IMHO.

what’s thins? a singer that isn’t all stingy and ready toi sue at the drp of a hat over their music? lol

she may not have the best music in the world, but at least she knows that a few folks downloading it isn’t going to do anything other than endear her to her fans. these days the cocnerts are more where the money coems from rather than CDs and such…unless you count MP3s and all that technical mumbo jumbo that you’re supposed to pay for…lol

    1. You have a great point about the money made from CDs/downloads being dwarfed by concert sales. Ok, you have a point and though she sounds like space-cadet, she does have a good sentiment.
