Don’t ask Russell Crowe About his Movie Accent

This is the audio in which Russell Crowe speaks about his Robin Hood accent.

Russell Crowe is my favourite crotchety old man. He’s not super old, but he starts acting like someone’s cranky grandpa whenever he doesn’t get his own way. The 46-year-old is promoting Robin Hood. There’s only so good this film’s going to be and it’s going to have to be quite something to outdo the Kevin Costner version (I wubs any movie that also stars Alan Rickman). He clearly got his man-period or something as he was not in the mood for the questions posed by this interviewer. Mark Lawson of BBC Radio 4′s Front Row spoke to Crow about the movie Thursday 13, 2010. Lawson was rather forthcoming with his observations about the movie, especially regarding Crowe’s accent; The BBC interviewer said the Australian actor missed the mark and the accent sounded Irish (he was probably right). Rather than laugh it off, the actor got the angry…

Russell Crowe, in Cannes for Robin Hood, got up and walked out in the middle of a BBC radio interview. Interviewer Mark Lawson first irritated Crowe by innocently asking about his accent in the film, saying he heard a hint of Irish. An unhappy Crowe responded, “You’ve got dead ears, mate, seriously dead ears if you think there’s an Irish accent.” After Crowe rambles a few minutes about the character’s genesis, Lawson asks if the accent is more northern English. Crowe replies, “No I was going for an Italian, yeah. Missed it? F-ck me. Anyway…” But the final nail that made Crowe stand and just leave was when Lawson asked him about a newly published anecdote that says, during Gladiator filming, Crowe didn’t want to say the famous line, “I’ll take my revenge in this life or the next.” Rather than answer, Crowe unhooks himself and walks out, saying, “I don’t get the Irish thing by the way.” [The Huffington Post]

Pictures show Russell Crowe as he presents his movie, with a sword, during a tackily-staged photo call for Robin Hood, in Madrid, Spain on April 28, 2010.

I’m with you, Costner’s version is better…but, for me, give me the Disney version. “oo de lally oo de ally golly what a day” lol

    1. I heard the movie went in at number 2, and was spanked by Iron Man for the number one spot… HA!
