Roman Polanski, noted director and statutory rapist, has been set free by the Swiss authorities, in a move in which we learn no more than being a celebrity has ‘perks’ the world over and for reasons unknown child rape isn’t so frowned upon in Switzerland. The Swiss Justice Ministry is playing the blame game, for their idiotic decision-making relating to releasing Polanski and not sending him back to the U.S. to face penalties stemming from a 1977 statutory rape of a then 13-year-old girl, blaming the US authorities for failing to provide confidential testimony about Polanski’s original sentencing procedure in 1977-1978.

Yeah, it’s pretty disappointing over here – a lot of people would like to see him go through due process – just because “it was a long time ago” does not make it okay – he has never been punished in any way, and it really irritates me that some actors stick up for him and say he should be allowed back in the US as a free man.
Very disheartening.
Apparently, as I noted on Twitter/ Facebook, we’re adding statutory rape to woman-beating, racism, and murder, on the list of things it’s okay to do, when you’re a celebrity. Ick. Good to know.
