Robert Halderman Letterman Extortion Arrest

A man by the name of Robert Joe Halderman, who also goes by Robert J. Halderman and Joe Halderman, is the alleged person who tried to extort $2 million out of TV show host David Letterman.

Halderman was a producer on the CBS show, 48 hours, which is where he met the woman he later lived with and the same woman said to be one of the female staffers Letterman was having a sexual affair with, Stephanie Birkitt.

Halderman, according to TMZ, was arrested yesterday outside of the NYC-based CBS headquarters. A well-known and respected producer at the base getting arrested caused quite the scene, it has been said. Halderman was busted in the blackmailing case for alleged attempted grand larceny in the first degree, after trying to deposit the tainted $2 million cheque.

Until recently, he and Birkitt had been living together. With inside information on the Letterman/ Birkitt affair, Halderman tried to compel Letterman to hand over money to keep quiet. Letterman baited him in a poilice sting and admitted his affair on his show, rather than really hand over the money.
