Nicole Richie Wedding Photo & Magazine Covers

Nicole Richie wasn’t important enough to get her own major cover on one of the two magazines I was expecting to more heavily-feature her weekend wedding to Joel Madden. Upon hearing, hours after the news broke, that Richie married on Saturday, I noted in my calendar to check the mid-week magazine covers for her photo editorial. I’d assumed that she’d score either a People or OK! magazine cover photo. Perhaps US Weekly, or another less-prestigious cover, if they were the only ones willing to pay. So, I checked out the mid-week covers to find that Richie was not there. Not in any way that mattered. She was on the cover of People, as you can see above. She’s in the corner, bottom left inset, with the generic headline ‘Best Weddings’, only for the timing (as, well hardly), underneath an old picture of Sandra Bullock for ‘People’s Best (And Worst) of 2010′ as ‘Woman of the Year’. People seem to have scored the exclusive and are the issue for Richie’s wedding album, but they’ve decided Bullock’ll sell more. Why? Cover Awards speculates that ‘While weddings used to be guaranteed big sellers, that’s no longer the case. By now, the Internet has provided every single detail you need to know. Plus, Nicole Richie has not been a big cover seller lately. When People featured her and baby Sparrow, the cover allegedly tanked on the newsstand. Finally, People has had big success with Sandra Bullock.’ OK! magazine made the same decision, with their non-exclusive coverage. Richie’s inset, top right, with the heading ‘Nicole’s Friends Refuse To Attend’; this follows an idiotic and made-up story from 2008 boasting ‘Exclusive Nicole Richie Wedding Details’. Us magazine favours the ‘New Teen Moms’, and this week’s break-ups, and ignores the wedding. Star, InTouch, and Enquirer ignore it too, in favour of shilling for a teenage model, making up separation rumours about Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie, and re-outing John Travolta.
