Men and women are different. They contribute different things to a child. Societies all over the planet, for thousands of years, have understood this. It was understood that from the child’s standpoint, all things being equal, it is better to have a mother and a father than two fathers or two mothers.

Societies therefore created the concept of “marriage” to encourage men and women to join together for the sake of children. *This has nothing to do with love.* It has to do with what is best for the child. Of course, love is an added benefit, but it *was not and is not the basis of the reason for marriage.*

Marriage is a license from the state. Marriage is not a right. It is a definition. A driver’s license is a license from the state. It is not a right. The state says minors can’t marry; siblings can’t marry; multiple partners can’t marry, and same sex partners can’t marry. Marriage is discriminatory.

However, there is NOTHING that stops gays from getting married–as long as it is between a man and a woman.

So, marriage was based on being between man and a women. But now people want to define it on the basis of love–alone. Well, the consequence of this is that there is *no way* to say the three people who love each other can’t get married. Nor can anyone stop siblings who love each other from being married. You may not like the idea of siblings being married. But once love becomes the criteria, you will have no legal way to stop it.

Those who are fighting to keep marriage defined as it has been for all history understand this.

Glad to see that Miley speaks her mind, no matter what her opinions are–not like Britney in Farenheit 9/11 with her glassy-eyed “We should support the president no matter what” bit.
Neo-con backlash is to be expected…maybe Miley should take a cue from the Dixie Chicks, who put some space between themselves and their country music base after the massive over reaction from that sector. History will reward Miley for being on the side of a movement that is just and fair, and will be looked back upon the way we view the civil rights movement of the sixties.

this is one of those rare situations where i will defend miley becuse she (or the people tellign her what to say) actually have it right. it’s those stuck up moms that needto go away, but unfortunaltely there’s more of a chance of spencer and heide becomignpresident and first lady (scary thought, i know)

With regard to your initial question, I essentially say the same thing in my last two sentences…

So long as people actually find anything controversial with being gay, this garbage debate will run and run. Can people not agree to let people have free speech.

So long as people (others in the media) see this as up for debate, it will run and run. I say being gay is as controversial as having a certain eye colour – as in, it’s not.

ok, fair enuf….. i can go with that however the question is still valid, why is something that has to be on the table for discussion? if i was born with an outtie belly button no one would ever know unless i constantly displayed it for all to see and thru my behavior forced everyone to deal with it! if i did it would seem unreasonable to get upset when i got judged by others and plain dumb not to expect that the whole world wouldnt be/think alike… no? having 6 toes is part of who one is, as is being right handed… all i am saying is that all peeps, all of us have the SAME rights, or at least we should! it doesnt have to be all black and white, if i dont agree with homosexuality it doesnt mean i am the enemy….

To an extent I can see what you mean about the debate, but I have to say I disagree. I put to you that homosexuality is something you are born and part of who one is, not a sexual act as I think you suggest above.

why is there still so much discussion about the rights of folks to be gay or not be gay? its what you do in your bedroom, not a lifestyle. if you dont tell me your gay i cant/wont treat you differently or tell you i disagree with your views. if i decided to start having sex with sheep lets say, would i suddenly be eligible for special rights? could i scream it from the rooftops and then persecute anyone that expressed a different opinion? would i get to wear special cloths and act differently or would that make me just a simple attention whore? could i tell a potential employer i sleep with sheep and then sue if i dont get the job? yes, ridiculous, just as much the continued argument about gays and their special, ‘deserved’ rights. all people have the SAME rights, stop pushing being gay in my face and i wont look at you differently, gay isnt like being black, fat, tall or short… its just what you do in your room, thats all…
