Michelle Williams has posed as Marilyn Monroe in the dollar store’s finest MM wig and gown for the October 2011 cover of American Vogue. This is another Annie Leibovitz cover, for those wondering about the shady composition and Williams depicting Monroe as sat on the potty. I like Williams, usually; she’s harmless and broadly-inoffensive. Except this cover further sullies the memory of a woman who was preternaturally beautiful in a way that wasn’t easy to imitate. For those who are wondering, Williams plays the titular character in My Week With Marilyn co-starring Emma Watson and Kenneth Branagh. Clips of her in costume below.

Actual Lloyd Benson (former Veep candidate) quote: “I knew Marilyn Monroe — and Michelle Williams ain’t no Marilyn Monroe.”
