Although I was always a fan of his videos (and his “Off The Wall” album holds a prominent place in the musical score of my life), I was never fanatical about MJ. When many questioned and wondered about the masks (covering germs, yes…from the procedures he had), the gloves (ravages of his “illness”, you figure that one out), the constantly changing facial features, the every straightening and growing hair, the permanent pink lips, it was never a mystery to me. MJ was a female eternally doomed to live in a man’s body. The man who could afford it all couldn’t afford transition to his true sex. That would have ended his fabulous wealth. I always knew. My friend who fainted today just found out. I told her. She finally understood.

Regardless, for those of us who grew up with his near-falsetto as the constant backdrop to our lives, Michael seemed eternal. He was a very vulnerable soul who proved today just how vulnerable we all are.
