The son of actor Michael Douglas, 31-year-old Cameron Douglas, has been sentanced to five years in jail on drug charges. Despite his parents and step-parent, Catherine Zeta-Jones, attempting to step in and speak on his behalf the addict didn’t walk away from what a judge called his “last chance to make it”. It’s a wonder someone didn’t just slide the judge signed copies of Wall Street, Spartacus, and Chicago. Those are some cool movies, and I bet that would have done enough to get the case dropped. Either that or they could have snuck young Douglas out of court while the judge was scalping the DVDs on eBay.
Cameron was arrested last July after he was found in possession of $18,000 worth of crystal methamphetamine in a New York hotel room. Cameron pleaded guilty earlier this year to drug dealing and his lawyers claimed it was simply a way of funding his addiction and asking the judge to consider a 47-month term. Cameron [...] had faced a ten-year term. Ahead of yesterday’s sentencing, Michael [Douglas] had written a letter to the judge with a plea for leniency. In a handwritten, five-page letter made public on Monday, the 65-year-old admits a family history of drug and alcohol abuse contributed towards his son’s descent. In the letter, Douglas admitted he was often absent during his son’s childhood and the family had dealt with several substance abuse problems. The judge [...] criticised Michael and Diandra for being ‘distant’, ‘problematic’ and immature’ parents when Cameron was growing up. [Daily Mail]

As a parent I find this extremely sad, but then, had they been better parents when he was small, maybe this would not have happened. I just pray it never happens to me.
Colin.
Yeah, the judge totally called it… given his childhood, this (drugs etc.) was bound to happen.
