Meredith Baxter of prime-time 1970/80s series Family Ties discussed coming out as a lesbian late in life, during an interview with the Today Show.
This morning’s admission follows reports that her coming out was probably more to do with media pressure and the threat of being outed than anything.
Baxter is in The Advocate, People and MSNBC who offer video of the Today Show interview from the morning of December 2, 2009. This is only shocking because she may have been pushed out of the closet, and not willingly come out.

You know she sort of looks like Skeletor from the He-man cartoon. I guess lesbians are kinda upset that it wasn’t someone more attractive being pushed out of the closet.

Yes, and today on The View, the women took Perez Hilton to task for being the one putting “the pressure” on Meredith to unlatch the closet door.
Not that there was much of a surprise there. Gays have a wonderful innate thing we call gaydar. We can spot our own. She’s been rumoured to be the spawn of Bilitis for years.
I linked to the Perez video in the post, of him saying he was never going to “out” her – but all fingers point to him. Again. Ugh.
I saw years old photos of her on my photo agency’s site, making hints that she was walking with a female romantic partner… guess this isn’t really so shocking.
See that is the only problem I have with the situation; about her being pushed. Sooner or later people are going to have to come out of the closet if they have a desire for the same sex due to strain and pressure of hiding their sexual orientation. I sure that this may be more of a relief to her than she realizes and she should be sending a fat check to Perez Hilton.
