This is just a quick update to mention that respected and much-loved author Maya Angelou has been hospitalised. The 81-year-old best-selling/ Pulitzer Prize-nominated writer was taken to hospital Saturday 3 October 2009. According to TMZ, she was scheduled to be honored at the Brave Heart Awards in Los Angeles. The awards were to celebrate women who made significant changes in their professional fields. Story developing and I’ll post more should more details be released. Get well soon Maya Angelou.
[UPDATE: TMZ have corrected their earlier reports, including, from what I hear an inaccurate statement that Angelou had died.]
Reps for Maya Angelou tell us she was never scheduled to appear at the event last night — so we have no idea why the organizers told us she was a no-show because she went to the hospital? Our camera guy on scene was told that Angelou would not be there because she was taken to the hospital. But according to Angelou’s people, she never agreed to be there at all and sent a taped acceptance speech in her place. Angelou is alive and well in St. Louis today and heading off to New York City for the next 2-3 weeks. (From TMZ)
