Mariah Carey has finally confirmed that she has swallowed a ham. Not that any one would have ever guessed. It had been reported over the last few weeks that Carey was pregnant and expecting her first child with husband-of-two-years, Nick Cannon. After multiple non-denials, and oddly-worded statements to the media avoiding the question directly, claiming Carey was too superstitious to confirm or deny, the news is official. ‘Yes, we are pregnant. This is true,’ the singer revealed this morning on NBC’s Today Show in a preview to a longer three-part Access Hollywood exclusive. This will be the first child for Carey, 41, and her husband, Nick Cannon, 30. The news was actually confirmed before they had a chance to break the story, by accident, by Thandi Newton on The View, yesterday morning, when asked why she took Carey’s role in a movie she’d dropped out of. ‘I think she’s pregnant’, said Newton, when asked. So, yeah, we knew. As well as the pregnancy reveal, we learn that Carey sadly suffered a miscarriage. ‘It’s been a long journey. It’s been tough because I’ve been trying to hold on to a shred of privacy,’ she added. Two years ago, shortly after the couple’s secret wedding, Carey and Cannon were in Monte Carlo for the World Music Awards when Carey took a pregnancy test. It was positive. ‘Only one person knew about this and we were like, um, ‘let’s not tell anybody else,” Carey said. A little more than a month later, she miscarried. ‘It was really sad so we had to just, we had really to absorb this and take it in,’ Carey said. Cannon said that the loss strengthened their relationship as Carey ‘handled it so well.’ Adding ‘her strength would literally be during the day… so festive and smiling obviously for cameras and spending time with everyone and you know, literally that night crying herself to sleep.’ She wouldn’t reveal her due-date, saying only, ‘it’s still early’, and ‘expecting is great’. Hollybaby.com, who speculates she’s expecting a boy, claims she’s due in March. Which would put her at around four months.
