Now keep in mind I DO actually buy music.

However.

Her argument seems to be that the people who run the music industry are a bunch of idiotic greedheads (on this point we are agreed) — so therefore we should give them more money with the hope that they accidentally do something useful with it?

She’s lost me with that last bit.

Personally, I buy used CDs on Amazon whenever possible, which results in no money whatsoever going to record companies, yet is completely legal.

I don’t like Lilly Allen. I did see an interesting analysis that the gaming industry is outselling music in the UK. It’s not illegal downloading that’s hurting them, it’s lack of quality content.

I’m too retaeded to work iTunes or the bootleg versions of iTunes but I gather there are many and varied ways to get this stuff illegally. You and she are right about how chickensh*t this makes record execs – there’s no room for the artist to grow or make mistakes any more. Must be scary times.

I agree with her! I don’t agree with illegal downloading AT ALL. It has really hurt the industry and it sucks. Labels are too frightened to sign many many talented artists and people are dropped much more rapidly.

Sad state of affairs, but illegal downloading isn’t going away any time soon.
