Lily Allen Blasts Freeloading Music Fans

Lily Allen, 24, has lashed out at music fans who opt to snag illegal downloads rather than springing for legal tracks.

She tells Britain’s NME magazine: “If what the consumer wants is good music, then they are going to have to start paying for it. The music industry is run by a bunch of f**king idiots and if you’re giving those people less money they are going to invest in bands that aren’t very good. The more money there is in the industry, the more they are going to have to invest in quality bands.

“There are people really struggling to make their way, they’re getting dropped much quicker, not being given the opportunity to make second albums. The only people responsible are those who are downloading music illegally, because there is no money going towards the bands anymore.” (via Contact Music)

Seems the UK singer has, for once, put her Crackberry down for long enough to form one whole thought. She did a pretty good job for her first try. After all, it takes more effort to come out with this rather succinct (for her) comment than spew watered down vitriol over her celebrity friends on Twitter.

In this comment, one can assume that Allen is talking crap about me and all my ghetto peers who oftentimes listen to the grainy unofficial version of a track or even an early leak, before deciding to make a purchase. Music is expensive as a mother effer if you have as broad a taste in music as some people, and so it makes sense to basically take the tracks for a test drive to see if you like them first. You can do it with cars to see if you likes them and I does the same wif condoms to make sure they aren’t one of the many brands that make me itch in my no no places. Some people do take their cheapness to the next level and don’t even buy the song, but some of us will later purchase the track anyway.

“In this comment, one can assume that Allen is talking crap about me and all my ghetto peers”.. no worries Amy, she clearly said if consumers want GOOD music they should pay for it.. quite obviously she is not in that category so feel free to download all her stuff, its the only way any one will hear it anyways….

    1. Thanks Ken, I shall go forth with your blessing to pillage the music industry.

I agree with her! I don’t agree with illegal downloading AT ALL. It has really hurt the industry and it sucks. Labels are too frightened to sign many many talented artists and people are dropped much more rapidly.

Sad state of affairs, but illegal downloading isn’t going away any time soon.

    1. I’m too retaeded to work iTunes or the bootleg versions of iTunes but I gather there are many and varied ways to get this stuff illegally. You and she are right about how chickensh*t this makes record execs – there’s no room for the artist to grow or make mistakes any more. Must be scary times.

you know, she has a point, but it’s like saying eating mcdonals’s will make you fat. you just can’t stop. so, i’m off to get a bug mac and download a whole bucnh of stuff from limewire

    1. OOOh… *googles Limewire*

…meant to say BIg mac, not bug…lmao

        1. Not had the chance yet. Still getting my new laptop as I like it before checking out new download/ social/ sharing type sites.

I don’t like Lilly Allen. I did see an interesting analysis that the gaming industry is outselling music in the UK. It’s not illegal downloading that’s hurting them, it’s lack of quality content.

    1. Sparky – welcome to the site and thanks for the comment. It’s a catch 22, less good bands means less sales anyway. Talent is not about a quick buck, so no one worth writing home about is even getting signed anymore.

Now keep in mind I DO actually buy music.

    However.

Her argument seems to be that the people who run the music industry are a bunch of idiotic greedheads (on this point we are agreed) — so therefore we should give them more money with the hope that they accidentally do something useful with it?

She’s lost me with that last bit.

Personally, I buy used CDs on Amazon whenever possible, which results in no money whatsoever going to record companies, yet is completely legal.

    1. Hey Jvon – I never knew that about Amazon!!! Why do I not know thes things O_o
