Keira Knightley Domestic Violence Message PSA Banned in the UK.
The Keira Knightley domestic violence PSA is too full on for British television broadcasting censors. The promo message, starring the 24-year-old actress has been banned from UK TV for being too, well, violent.
In the ad, the Atonement star plays an actress returning home from a film set to be confronted by a violent boyfriend who accuses her of having an affair with a co-star–she is then attacked and knocked to the floor.
In Britain, we have what is called a ‘watershed’, meaning after 9pm (when this was shown) you are free to curse, shag and generally make a nuisance of yourself without fear of any particularly meaningful recourse from the viewing public.
Guess it offended someone anyway, as the advert was pulled after only a limited showing.
The logic for the ban makes as much sense as saying the current controversial morning after pill TV adverts should be banned, in case they spread lax morals!?!

How shameful! No wonder abuse is so prevalent, it’s so taboo. Fuck this shit! Boo.
Agreed, boo on our over-sensitive censors.

letting violence go by without comment is like saying it is acceptable AND IT IS NOT
ACCEPTABLE. The real thing goes on all the time and children see it in real life, What they don’t see is how to get help and get safe. These ads are vitally important. Makes you wonder who of the banners is beating his family at home.
mishele – welcome and thanks for the comment – right on!

So, allow me to be serious for a second, since I rarely am. Sure, this gets pretty brutal since she legit gets the shizz beaten out of her, but isn’t this the kind of thing that happens everyday, if not, more brutally? So, by showing how brutally some women are beaten, they make people think twice. But, if it’s pulled off the air, aren’t they just sort of brushing the problem under the carpet and cutting off any help it may bring?
It may be brutal, but it’s the truth. Why hide the truth?
Hey honey – speak on it. You are always welcome to take a brief pause to be serious.
Perfectly put, I too am insulted and this is sweeping it under the rug. Shameful, just shameful.
Your pet names for me warm my heart. Even though I’m convinced you still think this is Jackson hahaha.
Glad your a bit warmer
Hang on a minute… who are you… Jackson’s (very nice) evil twin???
*You are*… oh, sweet lord!
Hahaha I’m his buddy Jadd that used to work with him in Boston before he moved. I help him out with the Dirt (hence why mostly every post is by me since he’s busier than a pig in a Mexico right now) and try to act as cool and funny as him.
I fail a ton, but out of every 99 bombs, I like to think I have 1 zinger. I hope this doesn’t change our pen name relationship. It does wonders for my ego. Honey.
You’re funny as heck, DAMN!!!
You can stick around yo’… any friend of The Dirt is a friend of mine
