Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes have split. It’s pretty crummy that one of the few relationships that seemed to be working for both parties has come to an end. The pair confirmed the break-up this morning, by way of a UK law firm.
Last year’s Oscar winner proved she could delay, but unfortunately not break, the Oscar curse. “Kate [Winslet] and Sam [Mendes] are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year,” Keith Schilling [their mutual lawyer] of London-based law firm to the stars, Schillings, said. “The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children. They ask that the media respect the privacy of the family.” [E! Online]
Winslet won the Oscar for Best Actress in 2009 for her The Reader. Mendes won a Best Director Oscar in 2000 for American Beauty. [Extra]
The couple have been married for seven years and have a 6-year-old son together. Winslet also has a 9-year-old daughter, from her first marriage.
No further details, nor a proper reason for the break up have been given.

I do not care who gets divorced, it is always sad when there are kids involved. Unfortunately with the stars, or rather lots of the stars, divorce is easier than getting married. They get married and get divorced like most people would buy a car, you give it a day or two’s thought, and you do it. Nothing Holy about a marriage for them.
Colin.
Agreed – these break-ups show a lack of commitment in the first place a lot of the time. One wonders why they bother getting married.
