In a report that labels Kate Upton a commoner with a weight problem, the New York Times posted a piece about the 19-year-old in which they went out of their way to trash her career and ‘Blake Lively her’ off the Victoria’s Secret runway.
Upton is the cover girl for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue 2012 and she’s nearly given away Victoria’s Secret in their catalogue before. However, notes NYT, she’s too basic to be on their runway. After noting that ‘concerned friends staged an intervention last summer… after she packed on enough pounds to jeopardize her career,’ the newspaper quotes one of the people responsible for VS casting, Sophia Neophitou, who says: ‘We would never use [Kate because she's] too obvious. She’s like a Page 3 girl. She’s like a footballer’s wife, with the too-blond hair and that kind of face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy.’ Decoding the British idioms in there, Upton’s like any other underwear model with a face from which you’re only one nose job away.
