John Mayer Mugshot: TMZ vs. The Smoking Gun

john-mayer-mugshot-tmz-vs-the-smoking-gunEarly on Thursday morning on his official Twitter, John Mayer took a second to stop typing gibberish to put a challenge out to TMZ. Now, anyone who reads this site knows I possibly have a little too much faith in the research skills of that particular news agency. It’s just that they strike me as the kind of website who would stop at next to nothing to get a scoop, over another site. They were the ones who broke news of Michael Jackson passing, nearly half-a-day before most TV agencies caught up. They were also the number one source of news about the Jasmine Fiore and Ryan Jenkins murder/ suicide.

Seems I am not the only one to have noticed that they have better skills at getting dirt than just about any other agency. Simon Cowell once challenged owner, Harvey Levin, to find vintage footage of him singing on an old English TV show. The challenge was met and Levin’s team found the video within less than a day.

This time, Mayer issued a challenge via his social network. In the challenge, he said if TMZ tracked down his mug shot from when he was arrested for driving with a suspended license in Georgia in 2001, he’d give $25,000 to TMZ’s charity of choice. The Smoking Gun, my second favourite source for celebrity justice-related dirt, also heard Mayer’s challenge and joined in. TSG won over TMZ and each got the cracky shakes over to whom the money should go… the website offered the challenge or the one that took it on and won of their own accord.

Mayer did the noble thing and split the winnings. He posted on Twitter that the $25K will be split between two animal charities, Pet Orphans Fund and Ace of Hearts.

I agree with MM. It almost looks like a modeling head shot.

But hooray for the doggies. The got to benefit from this. For once dirt was used for a good cause (besides my LOLz).

    1. I think it was interesting and I never have anything bad to say where charity is concerned. Good for him with issuing the challenge and the way he handled this.
