Jennifer Hudson will play Winnie Mandela in Winnie.
Jennifer Hudson is set to play the wife of Nelson Mandela, in a biopic named after the woman herself. Winnie, the Darrell J. Roodt-directed movie, will film in the South African locations of Johannesburg, Cape Town, Transkei and Robben Island. The movie production begins May 30, 2009.
Any movie that stars Hudson is a good thing. Like a diet of all Jelly Beans is a good thing. This would be a larf, watching her act her fellow co-stars off the screen, like she did to Beyonce Knowles in the monstrously horrible movie that was Dreamgirls. But this movie is of course going to be all political and serious. So, it’ll be markedly less appropriate to snort with laughter, every time she acts one of her co-stars off the screen in this movie as well.

That would be interesting to see this movie, obviously Winnie will be the good “guy” in this movie, and not her own self as in real life…

It’ll be interesting – picking her, rather than somemone poorly chosen like a Beyonce or whomever, shows they would actually like to make this properly. There’s also somewhat of a physical likeness.
