Janet Jackson’s advert, for skinned-alive animals who’ve been cunningly fashioned into over-priced coats, has been blasted by Pamela Anderson and the animal rights charity for whom she stans (doing everything short of throwing red paint herself), PETA. Actually, PETA were pretty quick to give a response when this advert with Jackson for Blackglama Fur first came out. They seem to have gone to seek re-inforcements, as they’ve issued another statement and got the support of Anderson who’s also outraged by the campaign; a campaign for which stars like Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, and Diana Ross have also been models.
Critics are calling Janet [Jackson]’s decision to pose with fur hypocritical. “You told me that you were always aggravated at photo shoots when stylists would try to throw fur on you and that you were even wary of wearing fake fur out of concern that it might actually be real or look real in photos and send the wrong message”, PETA’s senior V.P., Dan Matthews, wrote in a letter to Jackson. “You were very straightforward and sensible about it. What happened?” And Pamela [Anderson] says Janet’s ad is “disappointing”. “[Janet] has spoken out about fur before”, Anderson told Out. “Some people stop listening to their heart”. [OK!]
