A spokesperson for James Franco has spoken out about the much-reported allegations Franco was drunk/ high while presenting the Oscars. I didn’t watch the Oscars. I was busy reporting on its red carpet. However, I was aware of claims he was drunk off his face/ stoned beyond all belief or ability to present properly. From his failings as a host, where he was said to have left co-host Anne Hathaway to do the hard work, it was even reported the two became enemies. First, that report was fabrication. And not very imaginative (I prefer a fancier lie, myself). Reps for both insist there’s no animosity. While they may not have become best friends, one source tells E! Online, ‘they’re friends.’ Hathaway’s rep adds, ‘Anne adores James and had a wonderful time hosting the Oscars with him.’ So far as the claims he was on something, his rep denied that too, ‘James does not drink or do drugs ever.’ It’s further claimed by sources that he was ‘exhausted’ because he had spent several weeks flying back and forth from the East Coast to L.A. to rehearse on weekends. By Sunday, he did ’20-hour-days, four days in a row.’ Danny Boyle, with whom he worked on 127 Hours, co-signs the sentiment Franco’s not a stoner. ‘I wasn’t sure [about hiring him for 127 Hours] at first,’ said Boyle in October. ‘We met him and he was so relaxed; he looked stoned to me. People say that about him. But he’s not. He’s abstemious.’
