Jake Gyllenhaal GQ Magazine Cover May 2010

Jake Gyllenhaal is the second bobble head I’ve had to post today. First it was Heidi Montag, wibble-wobbling around for Extra TV. Now it’s bush baby-eyed, giant headed Jake Gyllenhaal. I’m in a conundrum about Gyllenhaal. Long-time readers of the site will know that he was one of my old crushes and that I used to keep him as a slave in my basement. What can I say, I used to be a sucker for effeminate closet cases (don’t ask why). I’ve almost entirely gone off him. But, broadly speaking, I do think he’s a decent-looking guy. Not on this cover, for the May 2010 issue of GQ. Nor in any of the pictures from the issue, found below along with his interview, but in general. I’m a bit confused as to what has been done to him on this cover. He looks like he’s been swimming in Jersey Shore tanning products. He’s somewhere between a gentle orange glow, and good old mahogany. Yeah, he probably should have either washed some of the tan off, or asked the crack-addicted make-up person to hold down their sh-t a little better.

Pictures from his NY shoot and another interview about Heath Ledger.

  • Jake Gyllenhaal on working with Heath Ledger: “He was very sensitive. He didn’t always have a sense of performance in his everyday life. He knew who he was. I think actors very often, they know how to present something, and that’s part of their job. I think he was just really sensitive. We often used to do a lot of things together, because people were very interested in him and I think we felt safe together.”
  • On Ledger’s death: “Even when we did Brokeback, it was like my work was the only thing that mattered to me. It was like I could only understand or define myself through doing that. Life, I didn’t totally understand. And I think I was afraid of life. And I had success in my work, enough success that you could keep going back there. But after that happened…I think I recognized that it was work. And I recognized that this is for real.”
  • On his life and finding himself as a person: “I’m trying not to keep things so neat. I think I’m realizing my strengths and my faults. I think I’m trying to see what is me…and what is not me.”
  • On his patents’ recent divorce: “I think it takes a lot of courage for my parents to make the decision that they made.”

  1. No Kidding! Before I read one word of your post, my first thought was, “What have they done to that poor boy’s head? Why is it so huge, and why do his eyes look like he has Graves Disease?”

I know for a fact that when you released him from your basement, he was in fine shape, better than before.

Whoever did this to him should be arrested.

    1. Outstanding, Kelly. Outstanding. That actually made me laugh out loud.

I had to Google “Grave’s Disease” (CANNOT BE UNSEEN), but as you say he was fitter than ever when I finally released him from my basement. I shall set about finding the culprits forthwith.

  2. and why does his suit match his skin color?

    1. ….maybe it’s a cheap suit and somehow 90% of the colour rubbed off on his face.

  3. Now you are causing me to snort out loud with laughter. The suit dye got all over his face, that’s what happened!

You’ve already answered one mystery question – I have great faith that you will find the villains who fed his head copious amounts of steroids, and you will promptly put them in your ‘other’ basement, the place where people are sent to be taught a lesson.
