Choosing to believe Jake Gyllenhaal is straight because my ovaries have too much invested for his apparent sexuality to be a lie, here’s the 31-year-old sizing up your ovaries too on the cover of Details September 2012. Gyllenhaal is promoting a movie about which I do not care although I do care about that sweater. Was it, like, 10 degrees in the studio for the photo shoot? What is that sweater? He’s so hairy that I find it hard to believe he can feel anything below freezing and it’s not that cold, yet. In any case, more below with Gyllenhaal looking like a cold geography teacher who needs to shave then get me pregnant (and then actually teach me geography).
- On the extreme preparation required for End of Watch: ‘Five months for a 22-day shoot. Three nights a week in ride-alongs with cops. Fight training every morning at a KenboKarate dojo, and I got the shit kicked out of me. Then the shooting range, shooting past each other’s heads, with live ammo. There’s a simulated fire in the movie, but Dave (the Director) wanted us to feel what that’s like, so he had us do a controlled burn… a Saturday where me and Michael Pena drive down to Orange County, dressed like firemen head-to-toe, and suddenly we’re there just sitting in the middle of a burning building.’
- On being on the other side of the camera: ‘I grew up on the other side of the camera. And yes, I do love making movies as much as being in them. I love actors, watching what they do, and I do love acting off-camera, and how it helps tell the story.’
- On his outlook on life: ‘Every journey starts with fear. And I could say that’s what I want to embrace now. A real experience. And I want, overall, to trust what I know is right. There have been many times when I haven’t. It’s what I’m asking myself: Where is the line? What is the line? There’s so much context, it can be almost impossible to find.’
