American Idol 2009 winner Kris Allen won over Adam Lambert.
This news made me lol today, especially after all of the fuss online about who was/ wasn’t going to win and about how everyone wished they could disappear up Adam Lambert’s talented backside and feel all warm and fuzzy forever and ever. Seems that although y’all like to talk the big talk you only ever watch it online or something, ‘cos demonstrably none of you mother effers actually watch this show on TV.
The Idol wrap-up shows got worse viewing figures than the franchise is used to.
The two-hour-plus Wednesday extravaganza featuring performances by KISS, the surviving members of Queen, Rod Stewart, Cyndi Lauper and Steve Martin posted 28.8 million viewers and a 10.0 rating in adults 18-49, according to estimates. It peaked at 34 million viewers in the final half-hour countdown to the upset victory by Kris Allen.
Those would be astonishing numbers for any other series. But for the juggernaut “Idol,” they are only good enough for last place in the demo among its finales. (via THR)
This year’s Idol finale show was down 12% from last year’s.

The reason why the numbers were down, was because everyone in the western states read who won on the internet and chose not to watch…..
Welcome ingrid and thanks for the comment.
Being non-US based that whole east/west coast thing goes right over my head. Thanks for putting that in plain English, that makes a lot of sense.
Ingrid has a point.
Gurl, are the US popo going to stomp all over me for this post. This damn Island is so tiny, the thought of the time zones on different coasts or whatever never crossed my mind
i was one of those people that tuned in at the very end…lol
my guess is people are tired of idol taking a commercial break after every word someone says, not to mention the douchback seacrast attmpting to drag things out.
oh….and then there’s the timezone factor.
The US TV system of breaks every 10 minutes or whatever it is is so stoopid. Also, were the timezones not apparent in every other season. Thinking about it that makes no difference and does not actually explain a decline in numbers. The more popular seasons were perhaps less affected by web 2.0 and perhaps that is it. But timezones in themselves not so much.
