I couldn’t be bothered to take a break from picking the leftover meth out of my teeth, and go blog about this properly. To be frank, someone coming out as gay shouldn’t be news. I don’t like to blog about this too much, as it purpetuates some stereotypes I take issue with. Also, it furthers the notion that coming out should be a big/ negative deal. It isn’t. As I said in the comments on this link post, “Water is wet”. Yeah. This guy being gay is not news. GLAAD commenting on his coming out is almost news; well, at least news with more of a positive spin. No, I’m not going soft. Rather than being snide, I’d rather inject some positivity into what is already sarcastic commentary on Ricky Martin’s sexuality.
In a statement GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios says [of Martin being gay], “When someone like Ricky Martin comes out, hundreds of millions of people now have a cultural connection with an artist, a celebrity and, perhaps most importantly, a father who happens to be gay. His decision to model this kind of openness and honesty can lead to greater acceptance for countless gay people in the U.S., in Latin America and worldwide.”
So, there you have it. Water is wet, Martin is gay, and meth makes me nicer.

I kinda, sorta like the way you’ve handled this story.
Yes, had it been me there would have been some snide remarks about what the hell took him so long and now that he’s made and stashed his millions it’s pretty safe for him to come out and wear his feather boa. But hey, that’s me. I’m sure most other Gays don’t agree with me.
Still, Jarrett is dead-on. Every time a major celeb comes out they inspire millions world-wide. They particularly inspire those who are still languishing in the dim light of the proverbial closet. For this reason I say: Thank you Ricky. It was about time.
And it’s about time you shared some of that meth with me, byotch.
Okay…
I understand your point. But, while I’m snarky, there are some things I don’t like to do. I wanted to keep this light; I felt homophobes, et al, would do all the negative heavy lifting for me. Meaning even if I did want to be negative, there’s not a lot more one could add to the dialogue.
Better late than never, yeah, and people were whispering last week because of a blind item. He was probably about to be outed, anyway.
It’s all gone, byotch!
[...] And not one living person was surprised Ricky Martin was “a fortunate homosexual man.” [...]
