Gisele Bundchen is such an aggressively obnoxious c*nt with some (most) of the comments she comes out with, mostly those about motherhood, that it’s pretty headache-inducing to write about her. Bear in mind, she was coming out with this crap before she was a mother, when discussing her stepson with husband Tom Brady. Bundchen has come out with a heck of a comment, saying that other mothers should be jailed for not breastfeeding for the first six months. Her sentiment is one with which I do not care enough to argue, not being a mother myself. However, she’s breathtakingly arrogant making comments like these in Harper’s Bazaar UK, in which she says ‘I think there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months.’
To Gisele Bundchen, breasfeeding isn’t just beneficial… it’s essential, and should be international law. “I think breastfeeding really helped me keep my figure,” Bunchen, 30, tells Harper’s Bazaar UK. The supermodel welcomed Benjamin, her son with husband Tom Brady, in December of last year, and revealed an impressive bikini body months after giving birth.
She adds, “Some people here (in the US) think they don’t have to breastfeed, and I think ‘Are you going to give chemical food to your child when they are so little?’ I think there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months.” [Us]

I completely agree with her. It is good to hear a supermodel say something intelligent for once, Brava Gisele!
You, along with that woman, should be shot. Who the hell do you think you are dictating a woman’s choice to breastfeed? And what if the baby can’t take the mother’s millk? I know plenty of babies that had to be on soy formula. And, some women can’t breastfeed because they don’t produce the milk. My mom was one of them. So take your arrogance and self-centered attitude to another place where people might actually care. You’re so vain you only care to breastfeed simply to get slim again. You probably don’t even care if the baby’s getting what he needs. Shameful people, the likes of you are. Go choke on something, will you?
Goodness, you think that was an intelligient remark? My sympathies.
I am shaking my head as I post the obvious… Some babies cannot tolerate breast milk, some mother’s are physically unable to breastfeed, Yada, yada, yada.
One baby and she gives the world advice, I hope we can count on her to comment on a variety of important issues regarding food, nutrition, teenagers, world peace, etc.
I agree with Anne – don’t think this should be a law – but if Gisele wants to make an instructional video to watch… I may consider it
What an ignorant comment! Some mothers are unable to breastfeed. Other mothers have to leave the house to work or go to school. Judgemental twit!
It’s called a breast pump. You can even get them for free from the state. A lot of you are stating that many women cannot physically breastfeed. I think 95% of those women use that excuse as a cop-out. What would they have done if they were mothers one hundred years ago? They would have BF their babies. And worked at it. And would have become successful. I understand those women who are not able to BF because of medicinal reasons. But physically? Those women who say they are not able to produce milk/ baby isn’t tolerating milk, for the most part are shooting any excuse they can out of their ass. If you really worked at it, you would physically be able to do it.

She’s ignorant! I am one of those mothers whose breast milk did not come in after childbirth. My daughter is now 10, and she is just fine.
If it was a known fact that breastfeeding caused mothers to get fat, do you think Gisele would ever even bother to breastfeed or be making such absurd comments??? Don’t get me wrong, I’m a breastfeeding mother myself who is a huge advocate of breastfeeding and agree that it’s the best thing (nutritionally) you can give your infant in the first six months before solid foods are introduced (unless you’re a crack-whore, in which case you should probably stick to formula) but when a supermodel prefaces her argument with “I think breastfeeding really helped me keep my figure”, her opinions on breastfeeding immediately become irrelevant. Besides, this is the same woman who three years ago was publicly defending a woman’s right to choose abortion but now she wants to take away a woman’s right to choose to breastfeed? Please…
I totally agree with you! Supermodel or not, she doesn’t have the right to decide for the rest of us mothers out here. I mean, is it because she’s “famous” that she gets to yap her mouth like a hungry porn star? Whatever, she just needs a reality check. Let’s see if she’s as successful with the next baby during breastfeeding. That baby may have acid reflux (which is becoming more common nowadays in infants) and not be able to have her milk. Watch, she’ll re-word her statement to something more obnoxious, like “Well, if I can’t breastfeed, then no one can!”
If that’s what she really said, than I feel sorry for her for not being well informed on breastfeeding/motherhood. Some of us, could not breastfeed. Why? In my case, my son was born premature and however much I tried he would not latch on. I even went to a lactation consultant for 3 months just to get help. I ended up pumpkin for 5 months until my supply finished.
So before she shares her opinions, she should think first and maybe rephrase how to say something.
Hmmm…..
MY son was allergic to milk and required soy formula.
What about the children with allergies? Those born surrogate? Those adopted at birth? The mothers who are unable to breastfeed? The mothers who NEED to work or attend school? The mothers incredibly sick after or during pregnancy/childbirth?
Just another celebrity using their status as a platform to “educate” us common folk.
Mothers should *try* to breastfeed for the first six months, and should be encouraged to but there are many reasons why they may not be able to. Some are listed above, but part of the problem at least in the states is our barbarian maternity leave policy. It would be much easier to make the 6 month mark if mothers HAD at least six months off, as our sisters in Europe and Canada do (they have more like a year). As to the figure remark some of us (I’m a currently nursing mother) have an unfortunate genetic trait of being unable to lose weight until we STOP breastfeeding. Kinda sucks.
Also, note to author – it’s “bear” in mind, not “bare”.
Oops, thought I’d checked that line, fixed.
Lord, I’m on a roll today.

I wish a nice hearty case of thrush on her. Then lets see how she feels.
Everyone – you may be interested to know that Gisele has responded to criticism, with a post on her blog. So, I’ve posted about her reaction to the backlash…

Bridget’s baby is sooooo much cuter.
A friend of mine had a baby about 8 months ago. She can’t breastfeed him because she is bipolar and takes medications that would be unsafe to pass onto the child through breastmilk. She is 100% stable, and is very responsible about taking her medicines, so she isn’t a danger or anything like that. But she can’t stop taking her medicine in order to breastfeed. That would be even worse for the child (though she works full time…but still). Breastfeeding is obviously great for any woman who chooses to do so (and I hope most women who can breastfeed choose to do so) but bullshit like this is just reeking of her immense privilege.

You gotta take into account her cultural background; I’ve worked in hospitals in Brasil and it is actually quite strongly encouraged to breastfeed your child. The Ministry of Health in Brasil is a huge advocate for it and has ad campaigns everywhere. If that’s her $0.02 then let it be. Doesn’t mean you have to follow her advice.
I’m a BFing mother and definitely think it’s whats best but it’s not my place to tell another woman what to do. I will say that her reasoning is stupid – because it gave her her figure back? That’s one of the least reasons to BF. I also agree that she’s speaking as someone from a country other than the US where women have to go back to work and do it all. Not sit around Europe for 12 months on paid leave and, in her case, sit around eternally while handlers bring the baby to her every two ours to nurse while she gets her hair and makeup done.
I would like to comment on the excuses of babies being allergic and milk never coming in, etc., for what they are – excuses. Funny how only American women whose babies are born in hospitals paid for by formula companies seem to have these problems. If these were legitiment problems, other countries without access to formula and clean drinking water would’ve died out long ago.
I’ll bet these research-preaching breastfeeding mothers who claim moms from the 1950′s and 60′s were so wrong in their bottle-feeding ways are very quick to embrace the 1950′s mom’s view of DISCIPLINE though, and are pro-spank despite all the research there now is against SPANKING. When it comes to spanking they’d be quick to emphasize that a lot of people in the past were spanked without ill-effects so modern research is bull, but they wouldn’t allow the same for the bottle and how many people thrived just fine on it. Some things from the bottle-feeding era they like, and then they conveniently don’t want to hear what the ‘experts’ say about what’s best for their child. They want to take away a mother’s right to bottle-feed her child, but don’t you DARE take away her right to hit that child! You should feel guilty about bottle-feeding (even though children thrive just as well on it) but DON’T feel guilty about giving your child six powerful lashes of a folded belt on their bare backside for taking a cookie without permission, then lying about it! Bottles are the decanters of Satan, but low-grade torture never did a kid any harm!
Gisele needs to shut her stupid trap. And I wouldn’t give one cent for the opinions of these holier-than-thou breastfeeders who think others should feel guilty for making decisions that are none of anyone else’s business.
My sister is also a tall blonde model who doesnt apparently need makeup to look like a woman and she too is an a$$hole – they must teach a course at Babazon for that.
