G.I. Joe Made $100 Million This Weekend… Wut?

Despite being given the worst critical mauling since Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the new big budget action flick, G.I. Joe didn’t die a slow death at the box office. This should come as no surprise as critics know nothing. All they do is call out horrible actors like leading man, Channing Tatum, for making walking and chewing gum look difficult. Ugh… useless. They are just terrible at guessing whether a movie is going to sink or swim, upon its release.

It was always fairly obvious that everyone with fond memories of this franchise and a gap in their schedule was going to check out the movie. Despite critics warning them it was minutes of their lives they would never see again. Tatum and co took turns laughing in the face of the critics, as their film somehow took an estimated $56.2 million at the north American box office this weekend. Worldwide, the take will be just over $100 million.

Here’s the top 10 earners for August 7 to August 9:

1. GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra: $56.2m
2. Julie & Julia: $20.1m
3. G-Force: $9.8m
4. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: $8.8m
5. Funny People: $7.9m
6. The Ugly Truth: $7m
7. A Perfect Getaway: $5.8m
8. Aliens in the Attic: $4m
9. 500 Days of Summer: $3.73m
10. Orphan: $3.73m

I may be a little biased, being a fan of it from back in the day, but I loved it. Critics have just been striking out on evrything this summer, haven’t they. Like everything they’ve said sucks has gone on to make more money than the stuff that is supposedly good. Kinda funny, if you ask me…lol

    1. You are spot on, the critics have ripped into every new release. Other than a small handful of movies like Public Enemies or whatever, yep, they hate everything… But to be honest, this does look pretty bad. That’s only based on previews but I was struggling to even enjoy those.

  2. Alizee says:

Action movies always make it, no matter what critics say, it’s normal for this type of movies not to be appreciated by “professionals”. I love Channing Tatum, it’s kinda hard to say something bad about GI Joe, I’m being exclusively subjective, lol

    1. That is so true. I love Channing even though he is a horrid actor. As with Transformers 2, this was always going to at least make back what it cost.
