The 2010 Footloose movie remake has lost its director, Kenny Ortega.
Ortega is the director who cobbled together rehearsal footage for the Michael Jackson movie, This is It. He seems to be a talented director who can create something out of nothing. He might have been able to stop this film melting into a big puddle of failure. Ortega’s issues stemmed from the film’s budget and tone. From that we can infer the script was only worthy of being used as potty paper, and the budget was barely enough to pay for 80s revival headbands and one all-in-one body suit.
The official line is it’s too soon, off the back of This is It, for Ortega to commit to another project. This is hogwash as it’s kind of like saying a singer’s album sold too well, too recently, for them to feature on a new single. The more likely reason is an amicable difference of opinion on how the movie should be made.
