Fantasia Barrino’s lawyer, Gena Morris, graduated from the Clever-dick University of Lawyering. Seriously. I think her manager, Brian Dickens, took a semester or two there as well. The statements that have been released in the past 48 hours, about how the sex tape scandals that have been slow-burning on urban blogs and tabloids for some time now, are so slimily-worded and deflective that it makes one wonder what they’re really hiding. For those who don’t care *raises own hand* and so missed the whole thing… you’re not missing much.
The former American Idol winner is accused of breaking up the marriage of a North Carolina woman named Paula Cook and her husband, Antwaun Cook, with whom she has two children; specifically, Cook alleges that Barrino slept with her husband and several sex tapes were made and the singer is blamed for their split in the litigation. Barrino and her lawyer have spoken out, and taken every care not to clearly confirm or deny the existence of the tapes or the affair. Probably because Barrino has the guy’s name tattooed in huge letters across her chest. Her manager claims ‘[She is] certain that she is not responsible for the deterioration of the Cook’s marriage’. Furthermore, her lawyer claims ‘The fact that [Cook] would seek such publicity in a case involving her children is particularly disgraceful’. Which has nothing to do with anything, and artfully ignores any sexual relationship between the two. It’s like ‘Yeah, she banged him and they made sex tapes… if his wife didn’t like it, and left him, that’s her bad.’
