Emma Watson Transfers From Brown University

Emma Watson is leaving Brown University. And she’s transferring to another, as yet unnamed, university. The Harry Potter actress was rumoured to have been bullied during her time at Brown. It was alleged, by New York Daily News, that classmates would heckle her for right answers in class. The most popular taunt being, ‘Three points for Gryffindor!’ She was also allegedly harassed and ‘stalked, during a Brown versus Harvard football game, as she watched in the stands. Refusing to leave, it’s reported she, ‘sat with two security guards in orange vests’ and was ‘escorted in and out of the stadium,’ as insults and further movie quotes were shouted at her. Watson was asked about the report, in a reader-submitted question on Time.com. ‘No [it never happened],’ she replied. ‘Actually, I’m really glad that [was] asked. That has never happened to me. Maybe someone said it under their breath, but I’ve never, ever had anyone say that when I’ve been in a class.’ Well, she’s leaving anyway. She’s suddenly found time in her schedule, after writing on her website that she was struggling to keep up with the course load. Watson’s spokesperson also denies the bullying and tells the NY Times that Watson has chosen to pursue a ‘course not offered at Brown.’

    1. Hi, I don’t mind so much the use of keywords in place of another username. However, please use a real web address and don’t rely on shortlinks. I want people to be able to hover and see what they’re clicking on. Thanks.

I think it’s a real pity if she has been bullied. She has never held herself with anything but dignity and she deserves a decent varsity experience as much as anyone else. In fact, any child star that manages to pass high school and keep up at uni should be commended, not taunted.

  3. OST says:

That is terrible! Just because she was in the Harry Potter films, she is trying to get an education. That’s really sad.

  4. sam says:

oh well, she’s richer than any of those bullies anyways… just jealous of her, she’s pretty, very successful and smart!

Well, she’s not leaving because of a course that’s not offered at Brown, that’s for sure. Anyone who’s gone to school in US knows that first you take your core curriculum classes, they are offered at all accredited universities and while you might be able to take an upper level class before you finish your core classes, most advanced courses require finishing cc. It takes about 2 years to finish cc load, or about a year and a half if you study through summer – which she’s not doing. From what I can tell she’s been in Brown for a year so she’s not done with her core. No academic reason for her to leave the school, so there must be something going on. Although I think it’s none of anybody’s business, she doesn’t want to switch schools all the time, it doesn’t look good on your CV. Most students transfer after 2 years, after finishing core curriculum if they want to graduate from a better school. If she next goes to a lower level school, I’d assume she ended up with too low GPA to stay at Brown.

    1. Thanks for the additional info, Monica. I went to University in England and the systems are too different for me to add more detailed commentary very easily.

Sucks that people are so stupid, good luck to her. She certainly looks very stylish in the photo.
