DJ AM, real name Adam Goldstein, was found dead Friday (August 28, 2009).
The celebrity DJ, is best known in pop media for his relationships with Nicole Richie and Mandy Moore. His passing away comes nearly a year after Goldstein survived a Learjet crash in South Carolina (alongside Travis Barker) that claimed the lives of four passengers and left the DJ covered with second and third degree burns.
This is amazingly sad and devastating news. It’s something I would not have believed unless I’d read reports myself with my own eyes, but it is true. DJ AM Adam Goldstein, 36, was found dead. He really did die in his apartment on Lafayette Street in Manhattan on Friday afternoon, his publicist Jenni Weinman said in a statement.
DJ AM was found at around 5:20 PM. Friends had been worried about him, as they’d not heard from him in a few days and had called the police. The police broke down the door and then found DJ AM’s body. Law enforcement say he was face down. He was shirtless and wearing sweatpants. He was pronounced dead officially at 6:00 PM.
The cause of death is still unknown, and people will need to hold off on the assumptions. However, a source claims drug paraphernalia including a crack pipe and pill bottles were found in the apartment. In addition, despite being sober from drug for nine years, it is said that he was struggling to deal with the post-traumatic stress of his accident a year ago and the break up with his girlfriend, Hayley Wood. She initiated the split, within the last week. Make of that what you will, but know at this point we are awaiting confirmation over what killed him.
DJ AM had been in New York to throw out the first pitch at a Mets game on August 23. Last month, the DJ had announced his participation in a new reality TV show, an eight-episode series for MTV called Gone Too Far.
He passed away and no one appears to have seen this coming. It’s so tragic and I for one am awaiting answers. RIP, our hearts are heavy with this loss.

He was sober for nine years? What an accomplishment and what a tragedy. I had wondered if his death may have to do with trauma the plane crash and it seems that was definitely a factor.
I rounded down, but yes, he was sober from drugs for the better part of a decade. It’s so sad that after the horrific crash and fighting to stay clean, this happens. Crash aside, this has Heath Ledger written all over it. It’s been freaking me out all weekend. I’m holding off on speculating as I cannot bear to spread half-truths or lies about someone who is no longer around to defend themselves. I am sure all will become clear soon…
