There is going to be an all-celebrity poker game that takes place in the next few weeks – and money raised will go to charity. On July 2 (7-2-09) Academy Award nominee, Don Cheadle (pictured above at last year’s event), will again be hosting the third annual Ante Up for Africa: Texas Hold-Em Tournament. The event is in association with the World Series of Poker (WSoP).
“I am very pleased that we have raised almost two million to date and appreciative of everyone who has participated and donated to help us on our mission of bringing the plight of the refugees of Darfur to the forefront of people’s minds,” said Cheadle.
The celebrities will be uber famous and putting their substantial wads of money where their moufs are. So far the list includes; Matt Damon (pictured below at least year’s event), Jason Alexander, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, Montel Williams, Herschel Walker, Hank Azaria, Brad Garrett, Marlon Wayans, Sarah Silverman and Casey Affleck. More celebs are learning how the heck one plays poker, so they can join in too.
Proceeds from the event will go to charities that provide aid and assistance to the survivors of the crisis in Darfur, Sudan and support activism dedicated to resolving this crisis.
