A representative from CBS explains the hypocrisy of blurring out a replay of the Adam Lambert AMA kiss. Their decision to blur the kiss is under fire. They played the Madonna MTV kiss too, while not blurred, only moments later.
Their reasoning makes no sense and they seem to know it. CBS claim that seeing Madonna kissing another woman is fine because everyone expects her to act like a drunken sorority girl. An actual homosexual male kissing another guy is not okay, because people are not as used to seeing this. That mixed with something semi-logical about how there could still be legal ramifications.
- A rep from CBS tells Extra TV: “We gave this some real thought. The Madonna image is very familiar and has appeared countless times including many times on morning television. The Adam Lambert image is a subject of great current controversy, has not been nearly as widely disseminated, and for all we know, may still lead to legal consequences.”
- Jarrett Barrios, President of GLAAD, also released a statement to Extra: “The Early Show’s decision this morning to blur Adam Lambert’s kiss from the American Music Awards reinforces an unfortunate double standard that is applied to openly gay performers. I would have hoped CBS would provide the same treatment for images of gay and lesbian people and not create an unfair double standard that treats our community differently.”
