Did you know you were c**kblocked by David Fincher? Eh, sucks to be you. I have my Innernets set to STUN and no one can c**kblock me. Earlier, I posted Rooney Mara’s Vogue interview. I skim read the entire piece when pulling quotes and I skimmed the following entirely, since it was a quote by Fincher and not Mara (Fincher was domineering and plain creepy about Mara and his ‘process’ in the interview; I disliked some of what he said… and he talked too much for it being HER cover). Anyway, I skimmed a quote about Mara’s casting in Girl With The Dragon Tattoo that was a slap in the penis to my readers. Even after working with Mara on The Social Network, where she played Mark Zuckerberg’s girlfriend, Fincher auditioned every other conceivable actress he could find. ‘We flew in people from New Zealand and Swaziland and all over the place,’ he admitted. Before deciding on Mara, a pre-nude leak Scarlett Johansson was his favourite for Lisbeth Salander. But Fincher wouldn’t let her be great, because she’s too good looking. ‘Look,’ said Fincher, ‘we saw some amazing people. Scarlett Johansson was great. It was a great audition, I’m telling you. But the thing with Scarlett is, you can’t wait for her to take her clothes off [he pauses] I keep trying to explain this. Salander should be like E.T. If you put E.T. dolls out before anyone had seen the movie, they would say, ‘What is this little squishy thing?’ Well, you know what? When he hides under the table and he grabs the Reese’s Pieces, you love him! It has to be like that.’ The scenes will be VERY explicit too.
Incidentally, this was the second role for which Johansson was keen to get naked and sexual on screen when she was denied by the director. She also offered to go topless for a sex scene with Ewan McGregor for 2005′s The Island, directed by Michael Bay, when Bay said no because the film needed to remain PG-13 not R.
