Jennifer Lopez Does Rihanna Impression on SNL

Jennifer Lopez did a Saturday Night Live takeover, on the February 27, 2010, episode. She was the host, and the musical guest. I don’t know why she was frontin’ like she still had a musical career, when we all know she was ditched by her label (I don’t believe her protests that rumours were untrue, and it was a mutual split). She did a monologue, a few skits, and even a send-up of a fellow singer. It was a rather light mocking. But since she was mocking someone with an actual career, this looked ever-so-slightly passive aggressive and even catty.

Lopez played herself, when she mocked Rihanna’s lack of vocals. Homegirl is no (pre-crack) Whitney Houston, but at least she can aim and actually hit the Billboard 100 like she means it. Rude Boy Director Talks M.I.A. Rip-off Scandal

Director Melina Matsoukas talks M.I.A. scandal: “[I] wasn’t trying to rip anybody off. We’re all inspired by similar elements and it came together in that way”

The director of Rihanna’s Rude Boy music video, Melina Matsoukas, can be heard in this interview discussing allegations the Rude Boy video rips off M.I.A..

Pretty much the second the video came out there were comments on its Vevo page that said it looked like a rip-off of M.I.A.. More than a few websites noticed the similarities. One even called for there to be some kind of nod or attribution, to what appeared to be a heavy borrowing of another artist’s visual style.

However, Matsoukas makes the point that it was a storm in a tea-cup. She clarifies she was not borrowing ideas, and similarities were a coincidence.

Rude Boy was compared to two M.I.A. videos in particular, Boyz and Galang (both of which can be viewed below). All three videos feature heavy use of 80s shapes, ethnic influences in the fashion and the dancing, and mainly primary colours.

[The] reaction isn’t one that the star or the video’s director, Melina Matsoukas, had even considered while they were shooting the clip: “I mean, you know that the video lends from a lot of Rasta culture and ’80s Atari vibe and that’s what we went with too”, Matsoukas said.
How Matsoukas felt about the scandal, with her video assumed to be so derivative: “Afterward I was like, ‘Oh, this sucks. They tore down my video.’ And her video’s great too. It definitely wasn’t trying to rip anybody off at all — it was just our approach and the animation stuff, it had a similar vibe. We’ve seen that before with Grace Jones and Andy Warhol, so I don’t know if anybody can lay claim to anything. We’re all inspired by similar elements and it came together in that way.” [MTV News]

Rihanna Has Finally Given Up Styling Her Hair

Rihanna is too busy ruling other worlds to bother brushing her hair. The poor girl looks like the strain of being a singer and the world’s only Alien Princess has gotten to her. On the one hand, I know of more than a few people who would be thrilled that she ditched the cockatoo ‘do. On the other hand, she need not have packed away her hot comb and left her house looking like she had an orange bowl glued atop her head. What the heck look was she going for? The 12-year-old-boy-whose-mother-cuts-and-dyes-his-hair look is not what she should be aiming for. I don’t like the same boring ‘do she’s been sporting for nearly a year now, but at least it’s an actual style. The poor girl is either comb-less or in a rut. Either way, this doesn’t look good. We should start a of fund: more hair products for RiRi!

Here’s video showing the making of Rihanna’s Rude Boy promo. The singer wiggled, jiggled, and bogled. I thought it was a cute video; even if it was alleged that the Alien Princess, the director, or whomever, totally ripped off the flava of M.I.A.. I don’t agree, nor do I care. It’s still a fun video that fits the theme of the song. The video below shows a mix of stills and filming on the green screen.

Rihanna Rude Boy Music Video Premieres Online

So, here we have it. The video was actually released on Vevo.com a few hours ago, but the douchebags running the site pulled the clip. Dunno why, also dunno why they tried for a minute to make like Hulu-wannabes and block anyone outside the United States. So annoying, and it’s not like I don’t know how to work the Innanets and just go and find a bootleg instead. If something is on the Innanets, it’s always on the Innanets. When will these people learn?

Anyways, they put the video back and I can actually see it. Guess they decided the world needed to see RiRi in HQ, and not have to suffer through low quality bootlegs. The video itself is all kinds of colourful. And I don’t mean Hype Williams-colourful. I mean like a bag of Skittles threw up on her video, colourful.

Rihanna Riding a Mechanical Bull to Sex on Fire

This is a fun video, and so I thought I would post. Moreover, it’s a video that I know you filthy lot will just love and have to rush over and go check out. The stoopid thing won’t embed, but at Celebuzz they have a video of Rihanna riding a mechanical bull to the Kings of Leon song Sex on Fire during a recent night out at New York nightclub Johnny Utah’s. Those of you who skim-read will have just seen the words Rihanna, Sex, and Fire. If that’s what you got from what I just typed, you’ll be disappointed. Otherwise, you’ll totally think this is a hoot also.

Teaser pictures for Rihanna’s Rude Boy music video were released a few days ago. Now we have a sneak peek of the video to go along with the photos. Before all the Rihanna stans go wetting their Alien Princess RiRi pyjamas and have to dry out their matching Alien Princess RiRi bed sheets, you should know this is only a teaser. Do me a favour and breathe into this paper bag with a picture of RiRi on it, slowly… 1, 2, 3. Repeat after me; it’s only a teaser but the video will be on and poppin’ real quick. The video will be debuting on Vevo.com this Thursday (but leaking online before then, no doubt). If it leaks sooner, I’ll post.

Rihanna Wears Half an Outfit at Pepsi Fan Jam

From these photos of Rihanna performing live at the Pepsi Fan Jam on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach, yesterday, I gather the no pants trend is nearly over.

Nearly over, as in she’s wearing one of her two pant legs. That’s the most pant legs I’ve seen her wear in some time. She also appears to be covering one of her boobs, which is the most coverage I’ve seen those things get in some time. The singer is wearing a cut-out catsuit that makes me think of the black half-catsuit worn by Shakira in the She Wolf music video (below, for comparisom). One arm, one sleeve, one boob, one ass cheek, and most of their crotch hanging out. At least Rihanna has the good manners to cover her remaining boob with a strapless bra. And cover her bare leg with fishnet stockings. Her booty’s still kinda hanging out, but bish works out. I’m not even mad at her.

For those more into fashion than me, Rihanna is wearing an outfit designed by Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn and her white shoes are by Alexandre Vautier.

Red Carpet Photos for Grammy Awards 2010

The red carpet fashion for the 52nd annual Grammy Awards, 2010, was just as ass-tastic and lethal on your eyes as you had imagined it being. If people weren’t wrapping themselves up in tin foil and glitter and being done with it (yes, I’m looking at you, Lady GaGa), they were wearing what looked to be identical to performance outfits we’d seen in the past, or they were a flat out fizzle.

Be sure to either pop in your Photoshop-effect contact lenses to iron out the worst offenders, or smear some Vaseline over your eyeballs so even the worst red carpet fashions can be viewed with that other-worldly fuzzy glow.

The attendees at the Grammy Awards who walked the red carpet included, Lady GaGa, Mary J. Blige, Fergie, Beyonce who looked like she’d lost a fight with a glitter gun and it went off in her hair, ew, Rihanna who looked too adorable, Adam Lambert, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Snooki (can I get a collective eye-roll), Carrie Underwood’s new weave, Jennifer Hudson, and Jennifer Lopez striking the same pose and constipated face as always. Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Gala Party Pictures

Before the main festivities kicked off, a bunch of people got dressed up to get crunk at the Clive Davis pre-Grammy pAArty. The gala took place on Saturday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, to honour Universal Music Group CEO Doug Morris with a host of performers. The celebrities who climbed out of bed and tripped and fell into their best glad rags included Taylor Swift, Slash in the same outfit he’s been wearing for the last decade along with some replaceable bish, Sheryl Crow, Ne-Yo, Joe Jonas, Usher, Mya who is still under the impression she’s having a career revival, post-virginity Kevin Jonas and wife Danielle Deleasa, Bon Jovi and his purdy-ass family, Fergie, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna and Ciara who looked like they were sharing (bad) styling tips, Jennifer Hudson, Katy Perry and Russell Brand, Carrie Underwood, Jay-Z and Jamie Foxx.
