Nicole Richie made an announcement on her official blog that she went into labour in the very early hours of September 9, 2009. She has now given birth to a son.

Her baby son has been named Sparrow James Midnight Madden and he weighs 7lbs 14oz. Sparrow James Midnight, Nicole and the rest of the family are all doing well. Congratulations to the happy family, this is great news.

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden are already parents to 20-months-old Harlow Winter Kate Madden.

Nicole Richie is insisting that despite rumours of blue baby clothes and the assumption that she is having a boy, she does not know her growing baby’s gender. She also insists that she wants the sex of her unborn baby to remain unknown to herself and everyone else until she is actually in the delivery room.

“We want the surprise… what is there really to plan?” Nicole told Larry King last night, adding, “I’ll get the clothes after.”

Nicole’s dad Lionel Richie, who also appeared on the show, admitted he’s hoping for a baby brother for his granddaughter Harlow, 16 months. And apparently he’s not the only one! ”Joel and I are having powwows,” Lionel said, with Nicole adding, “You should hear them prepping each other [for a boy].” (via Celebrity Baby Scoop)

Nicole Richie and her partner Joel Madden have just announced that they are expecting a second baby – little Harlow is going to be a big sister!

The pair couldn’t wait to share their news and so Madden posted an entry entitled, “Better than winning an OSCAR!”, on the official Good Charlotte blog at 11pm last night.

The entry said “What’s better than winning an Oscar? I am so happy to tell everyone that Harlow is going to be a big sister! God has truly blessed my family. Hope your (sic) all feeling as good as i am right now…”

If they can manage to produce another baby as freakin’ painfully cute as little 13-month-old Harlow, I might have to put my shades on before looking at the inevitable baby photos, lest I be blinded by the cuteness.

Weird thing, when I think back, this is about the same rate Brit Brit was firing out ill-thought-out babies and I was all over her ass for not really thinking her pregnancies through and rushing into having a second child. With Richie and Madden however I think no such thing, and the probable fauxmance and lack of a conventional marriage aside, I think they are actually going to be fabulous parents and spank all shitty Hollywood people who are too busy posing to actually raise their babies *cough… Katie-bot and Tommy… cough*.
