Lady Gaga upset PETA by wearing a dress made from out-of-date cuts of meat from the bottom of a Wal-Mart freezer (I keed). I don’t know how she managed that. She isn’t hurting anyone. She’s probably helping to create life with the maggots crawling around in that thing (have a look at the dress the next day, and you’ll see what I’m getting at). Now, apparently, the singer’s VMAs outfit is being criticised by bored butchers who probably didn’t watch the ceremony. Because there’s nothing more fun than being outraged by something you’ve not witnessed firsthand. NY Daily News interviewed butchers who lamented the cheap cuts of meat used in the notorious meat dress, pictures of which are below and show the outfit made using cuts from the designer’s family butcher. “Her bodice looks like the outside of the rib. Over the shoulder looks like it does come from a shoulder. There are no expensive cuts here, no real steaks. The best you’ve got is the flank steak on her head”, said one butcher, missing the point. “It’s the cheaper end cuts… not including her. You got about $100 of meat there.”
According to the designer, Franc Fernandez, the dress was made over two/ three days and refrigerated before, during and after. The finished item weighed around 40 lbs (there were spares from the 50 lbs of meat bought) and it didn’t drip blood. Gaga says the dress was comfortable, had a sweet smell and didn’t stink at the time. It was out of refrigeration for about five hours total. The meat started to dry out, rather than rot. It will go bad and so can’t be worn again.
