The Grammy Awards were February 12, the day after Whitney Houston passed away while getting ready for the Clive Davis pre-Grammys party in what ended up being a long weekend of maudlin positing and conspiracy theories. Most of that’s over with until Houston’s toxicology in a month’s time. So we’re back to the matter at hand: ugly dresses on thin people. And MEH dresses on whomever else I don’t know the names of who’ll be lumped in another post. I’m going to call it: Katy Perry doesn’t want or need the scrutiny right now, so she’s chickened out of appearing at Wednesday’s People’s Choice Awards. Only this weekend did the singer issue a statement about December’s divorce filing, which felt like a precursor to the appearance. However, Perry just went on Twitter to back out and thank people for their votes so far: ‘Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People’s Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed!’ She could have just avoided the press line at the event, no? Is it extreme to back out rather than duck the press on the red carpet?
Katy Perry went on Twitter for the first time since the divorce filing in order to passive-aggressively tell her parents to STFU. Last week, Perry’s parents got all excited about the divorce and how it drew people into their local church to hear her pastor father preach. They name-dropped the singer in marketing materials for their services and they’ve been talking about the divorce and her feelings in the media. On Sunday, the singer wrote: ‘I am so grateful for all the love and support I’ve had from people around the world. You guys have made my heart happy again… Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, ‘close sources’ or my family.’ Perry will appear in public for the first time since the split for Wednesday’s People’s Choice Awards.
