Forgetting that weeks at a spa with the word ‘rehab’ in its name is the quickest way to get the world off your case so you can resume partying, it’s reported that Amanda Bynes is refusing treatment for her suspected alcohol issues. This is the drinking problem that doesn’t exist because Bynes’ father said so in People Magazine in the most sincere display of parental enabling since the Lohans.

Sources tell Page Six that Bynes is refusing the best advice of friends and her manager because her dad thinks she’s cool. With concerns about driving drunk and texting while driving, a source told P6: ‘She is not the same girl as she was a year ago. She is just doing whatever she wants to. do. Friends are concerned because she is not the Amanda they know.’ Another source tells Radar Online: ‘Amanda has been in a downward spiral for the last six months. Even though her dad publicly said she doesn’t drink, he knows she has a problem. It’s truly sad to witness. Amanda has been told she must go to rehab, but she is refusing.’

Yesterday, I had a brief conversation with a Twitter follower to the tune of ‘Yeah, you’re right, she’s 26-years-old and her daddy’s lying to People Magazine about her sobriety.’ During another conversation on Facebook, I replied: ‘Yeah, Bynes was at The Standard Hotel Thursday and Lindsay Lohan might have been at home with ice cream and Netflix. It’s plausible it’s Bynes who assaulted that woman. We’ll see…’ And that’s about the long and short of it. There’s at least one TMZ.com video showing friends holding up an inebriated-looking Bynes as they exited a club. Another video shows a TMZ cameraman begging enablers to stop Bynes driving when she appears drunk again. And the website is blatantly calling her on it, suggesting a drinking problem that requires treatment. I concur. She needs help aside from daddy’s hand-holding. Other sources have since run to People about Bynes, claiming that she’s become lost since she stopped working regularly: ‘This DUI was definitely just a serious lapse in judgment. She hit a wall personally and professionally [in 2008] … I think she’s been a little lost since then.’ Another source adds: ‘[She] was raised in the industry and came up in the industry, so she has kind of a twisted head space in terms of social groups.’

Asserting that it’s everyone else’s fault that she got arrested for DUI after swiping a police car, Amanda Bynes and her family maintain that she’s innocent of the charges because she doesn’t even drink (similarly, Lindsay Lohan claims to be innocent of Thursday’s assault charge because she was ‘at home watching TV’ that night). I overlooked Bynes’ arrest because of the Easter weekend. However, this is still a thing because of the denials and the mug shot. So, I’ll address the rebuttals and claims that Bynes is basically being smeared and framed. Asserting that his little angel doesn’t drink, despite video on TMZ.com appearing to show Bynes driving drunk before, Bynes’ father, Rick, tells People Magazine: ‘She was not drunk. I was told that she blew a zero on the Breathalyzer. She didn’t have a single drink that night. My daughter doesn’t drink. [She was arrested because] she was upset and very emotional,’ he continues, blaming the cop for pulling out in front of his daughter. ‘She is a good girl. She just chooses not to work, and because of that, people go after her.’ Page Six reports that Bynes has since hired attorney Richard Hutton who represented Paris Hilton’s and Prison Break actor Lane Garrison’s DUI cases (in the latter of which, people were killed).
