Miss California U.S.A. 2009, Carrie Prejean, booed for opposing gay marriage
Let me preface this by saying that, no, I did not watch last night’s 2009 Miss U.S.A. pageant, nor do I give a poop about any “contest” where people are judged on how well they whistle the tune of ‘The Sound of Music’ or how well they fill out a bikini. I do, by contrast, care deeply about misjudged political statements that have no place being aired in a public forum.
At the Miss America (Miss U.S.A.) pageant 2009, Carrie Prejean (Miss California) got her toned butt booed for expressing her opinion.
Now, her particular opinion is one with which I disagree – that gay people should not marry – however, I will defend anyone’s right to free speech. (Whether or not they can tie their own shoe laces).
Prejean took my breath away, expressing such a flabbergasting stance so openly, in response to openly gay Perez Hilton’s question about Vermont’s recent legalization of same-sex marriage.
For me, her stance is not the issue here. Nor is anyone else’s stance on gay marriage, and it’s subjective rights and wrongs.
The issue is that Miss California came across like a mangle efftard and did not take the time to think, and at least get an entire point across. If she had managed to refer to gay marriage in an articulate manner and call heterosexual marriage ANYTHING other than “opposite marriage” (??!?!??) she would have done herself a humongous favour and not spent the whole of today being made fun of and cussed out in the popular media.
Screw it, I’m waffling, but this is really hard to explain. Just watch the videos and feel free to chime in.
