Apparently, Johnny Depp petitioned for a sex scene with him and Angelina Jolie to be cut from The Tourist. This is being reported in two ways and there’s yet to be official confirmation of why the scene was cut from the film. Firstly, some are claiming Depp’s longterm partner, Vanessa Paradis, didn’t like the scene and so pestered/ begged him to get it cut from the film. I’m arbitrarily choosing to discount that report. Because it’s the ‘jealous girlfriend’s fault’. And it involves a grown woman ‘begging’. Both of which annoy me. As though someone with whom Depp shares his life and a family cares what Angelina Jolie and he do on set. Once filming the scene is over, no less. The second report is that Depp thought the scene, taking place in the shower, ‘cheapened’ the sexual tension.

Featuring Angelina Jolie in a naked embrace with Johnny Depp, it was expected to be the steamy highlight of The Tourist. After learning of the scene, Paradis ‘wanted him right out of the production’, a source said. ‘Angelina comes with a reputation. She stole Brad Pitt from Jennifer Aniston when they were shooting Mr & Mrs Smith together.’ Depp, who has lived with Paradis for 12 years, resisted her pleas. ‘But he gave in over the shower scene,’ the insider said. ‘It would have been highly embarrassing for Vanessa. When Angelina learned he wanted it out, she wanted Johnny to reconsider, but he got his way.’ A spokesman for Depp did not respond. A spokesman for producers Sony ­Pictures said, ‘I have not heard that the scene was cut. I will have to look into it.’ [Daily Mail]

This copious woman-blaming doesn’t sit right with me. Nor do general claims of Jolie’s ‘man-stealing’. But, this scene has been talked about since 2009. And the script leak, featuring the scene, only got more gums flapping. It’ll be interesting to see how much of the scene ends up in theatres upon its December release.

Last week, we saw the first trailer for Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp’s new movie, The Tourist. It’s about Depp’s character being led astray by Jolie, whom he meets on holiday in Italy. Or something. I was distracted by Jolie’s accent. Anyways, here are the movie’s first stills showing the two leads in pictures we feel we spent all Summer long staring at. But, screw it. Let’s stare at them some more. And, then pay too much for some overpriced non-noisy candy/ drinks and stare at them in theatres. That’s what one does in the presence of the peculiarly pretty, is it not? I’m usually too busy trying to work out why the blank screen and opening adverts before the movie starts (my favourite bits) aren’t in 3D.
